ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Herrick Legaspi won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to give the Navy men's tennis team (17-9) a 4-3 victory over Norfolk State (4-4), Saturday morning in Virginia Beach, Va.  Later in the day the Mids lost a 6-1 decision at No. 74 William & Mary (6-6) in Williamsburg, Va.

Navy 4, Norfolk State 3
The doubles point was not decided until the last of the three matches was completed.  Navy's Graydon Buckingham and Aaron Gu started off play with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles against the team of Boris Lunin and Deniz Okyay.  Norfolk State evened the results when Jakub Solarski and Antoni Pankowski defeated Steve Nguyen and Jason Kim, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles.  The Spartans earned the point with a 6-4 by Vladisav Gorbatenko and Frederick McRae over Legaspsi and Nathan Nguyen at the No. 1 flight.

Pankowski defeated Nicholas Nguyen, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles to make the score 2-0.  Steve Nguyen placed Navy's first point of the day on the board when he won a 6-2, 6-4 match against Okyay at No. 2 singles.  Zach Quattro followed with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over Lunin at No. 6 singles to tie the score at 2-2.  Solarski gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead when he defeated Nathan Nguyen, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 flight.  The score would be tied again after Kim won a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 match over McRae at No. 4 singles.

Legaspi had dropped the first set of his match to Gorbatenko by the score of 6-3.  He bounced back to win the second set by the same score to force a third set.  That frame was extended into a tiebreaker, which Legaspi won by the score of 8-6 to end the nearly four-hour match between the teams.

#74 William and Mary 6, Navy 1
The Tribe narrowly won the doubles point from the Mids.  Satchel Benn and Oliver Hague defeated Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles in the first match to finish.  William & Mary's Alexander Karman and Alexandre Leblanc held off Tommy Kim and Jake Young in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3) to win the point.  The remaining match at the No. 1 flight was stopped with Luke Garner and Sasha Panyan holding a 5-1 lead in a tiebreaker over Bill Duo and Konstantinos Raptis.

Garner would win a 7-5, 6-2 match over Benn at No. 2 singles in Navy's lone point of the day.  Young very nearly gave the Mids a second point, but he dropped a close 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) decision to Hague at the No. 5 flight.
