GENEVA, N.Y. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team had a light weekend, competing in the MAISA Women's Fleet Race Championship in Geneva, N.Y.
Both days were sunny and seasonally cool on the Finger Lakes, as a variable wind out of the northwest put the racecourse down-wind and made for very shifty conditions. With a small starting line and an often-skewed course, the racing was extremely challenging, but the Midshipmen showed great speed and were able to come back to avoid deep finishes. Unfortunately, the Mids found themselves forced to claw back more often than desired.
In the end, Navy wound up fifth overall out of 15 teams, as junior
Evie Blauvelt and freshman
Mary Dwyer finished fifth in the "A" division while sophomore
Ava Farley, junior
Linnea Forsberg and freshman
Josie Sherry came in sixth in the "B" division.
Navy is back in action April 6-7 at the Prosser Trophy, competing for the MAISA Team Race Championship in Norfolk, Va.
