Army-Navy Men’s Tennis Match Set for Saturday in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The annual Army-Navy men's tennis match will be contested Saturday in Annapolis.  The Star Match, part of the Star Series presented by USAA, between the Black Knights (12-13, 4-1) and the Mids (25-14, 4-2) is slated to be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts beginning at 1 p.m.

Should poor weather conditions force the teams to move indoors, it will be played at the Tose Family Tennis Center and the start time pushed back to after the conclusion of the 2 p.m. semifinal match of the Patriot League Women's Tennis Tournament being hosted at the venue.

Army Preview
The Black Knights travel to Annapolis with an overall mark of 12-13 and a league record of 4-1.

Army has posted a 5-3 record over its last eight matches, with two of those defeats coming while in Southern California to UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount and the third being a 4-1 loss at Boston U. last weekend.  The Black Knights have registered their recent wins over Holy Cross, Loyola, Lafayette, St. Bonaventure and Lehigh.

Series History
Navy holds a 71-38 advantage in the overall series between the teams.  The Mids have won the last nine meetings in the series dating back to 2018.

Navy also leads the Star Match series by the count of 56-30.  The Mids enter Saturday having won the last seven Star Matches going back to 2016, with two of those matches having the final score of 4-3.

4-3 Matches
Navy has posted a 6-2 record this year when the final score of a match is 4-3, but has lost its last two matches with that final score.

Army has compiled a 2-1 record when the final score is 4-3.  The last two wins for the Black Knights over St. Bonaventure and Lehigh have had the final score of 4-3.

Three of the last nine matches in the Army-Navy series have had the final score of 4-3, including last year's lone meeting of the teams which was played at Army.  The final score in 11 of the last 18 Star Matches (since 2005) has been 4-3.

Doubles Point
Navy has won the doubles point in 24 of its 39 matches this season.  The Mids have tallied a 22-2 record in matches when they win the doubles point and a 3-12 mark when losing the point.

Army has earned the doubles point in 12 of its 25 matches this year.  The Black Knights have totaled a 10-2 record in matches when they win the doubles point and a 2-11 record when they lose the point.  Army's two most recent wins over St. Bonaventure and Lehigh came after it had lost the doubles point.

The team winning the doubles point in the last 24 Army-Navy matches (dating back to 2010) has posted just a 13-11 record in the match.  This includes Army winning the doubles point in each of the last four and five of the last nine matches, all of which have been won by the Mids.
