FROSTBURG, Md. - The Navy women's rugby team concluded the 7s regular season with a second-place finish in the Frostburg 7s Tournament on Sunday in Frostburg, Md. Navy's three teams posted a combined record of 4-5.
Navy's No. 1 team placed second in the tournament with a 3-1 record. The Mids defeated Mount St. Mary's No. 2 team (40-0) and West Chester's No. 1 team (17-12) during pool play to qualify for the playoff semifinals. Navy routed Penn State's No. 2 team in the semifinals (33-5) to advance to the championship match. The Mids fell in the finals to Penn State's No. 1 team by a score of 17-12.
Navy's No. 2 and No. 3 teams both lost their two matches in the pool phase. Navy's No. 3 team earned a spot in the ninth-place match and defeated Mount St. Mary's No. 2 team, 19-17. The seventh-place match between Navy's No. 2 team and West Chester's No. 2 team was not played.

Navy's No. 1 Team vs. Mount St. Mary's No. 2 Team (W, 40-0)
The Mids started the tournament with a dominant, 40-0, victory against the No. 2 team from Mount St. Mary's.
Megan Leitz returned to the No. 1 team's lineup and scored the first try of the match in the third minute.
Abby Hershner made the score, 7-0, with a successful conversion kick.
Catherine O'Hara continued her excellent freshman campaign by finding the try zone in the fifth minute. Hershner then nailed another conversion kick to put the Mids up, 14-0.
Charlotte d'Halluin tallied a try just before halftime to extend Navy's lead to 19-0.
Alexis Rohrbach scored a try 33 seconds into the second half and Hershner put her third conversion kick through the uprights to give the Mids a 26-0 advantage.
Ella Callahan accounted for the final two tries of the contest in the ninth and 11th minutes. Hershner also made both conversion kicks following Callahan's scores.
Navy's No. 1 Team vs. West Chester's No. 1 Team
Navy overcame a 12-point deficit to win its second game in the pool phase over West Chester's No. 1 team by a score of 17-12.
The Golden Rams scored the first 12 points with a try in the second minute and a converted try in the fifth minute. d'Halluin gave the Mids a huge momentum boost by scoring a try in the seventh minute to make the score, 12-5, at halftime.
Hershner tied the game 1:03 into the second half with a try and successful conversion kick. d'Halluin then scored the go-ahead try just before the 10th minute and Navy's defense held strong over the final five minutes.
Navy's No. 1 Team vs. Penn State's No. 2 Team | Playoff Semifinal (W, 33-5)
The Mids had another big offensive outing to beat Penn State's No. 2 team in the semifinals, 33-5.
Caroline Shegogue scored her second try of the season 48 seconds into the game. Hershner added two points by making the conversion kick to give Navy a 7-0 lead.
Siena Hall recorded her first try of the tournament in the third minute and another conversion kick from Hershner made the score, 14-0. The Nittany Lions answered with a try in the fourth minute, but the Mids compiled two more tries before halftime.
Hershner put Navy up, 21-5, by scoring a try and nailing a conversion kick in the sixth minute. d'Halluin capped off the first half by scoring a try in extended time. Leitz took over kicking duties and made her first attempt to make the score, 28-5.
O'Hara later posted the lone try of the second half just before the eighth minute.
Navy No. 1 Team vs. Penn State No. 1 Team | First-Place Match (L, 17-12)
Penn State's No. 1 team claimed the tournament title over Navy with a game-winning try in extended time.
The Nittany Lions took a 7-0 lead by scoring a converted try in the third minute. Hershner cut Penn State's lead down to, 7-5, with a try in the sixth minute.
The Nittany Lions regained a seven-point advantage after tacking on a try 48 seconds into the second half. Shegogue helped Navy answer by scoring a try in the 11th minute. Hershner then tied the match, 12-12, after putting the conversion kick through the uprights. Penn State found the try zone again in extended time win the match, 17-12.
The Mids conclude their season at the 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship next Saturday and Sunday in Boyd, Md. Navy will face Virginia Tech in the first round of the Women's Premier Cup on Saturday at 10:50 a.m.
