WILMINGTON, Del. – The Navy women's golf team claimed a 5-3 match-play victory over Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
 
Playing a modified match-play event with eight singles matches on the par-71, 5,670-yard course, the Midshipmen found themselves down early when Marissa Malosh beat freshman Keira Howard, 5 & 4, but bounced back via rookie Emma Tang's victory over Alisa Khokhlova on the first playoff hole and took the lead with senior Stephanie Lee defeating Christina Carroll, 2-up.
 
Delaware evened it back up thanks to Oihana Etxezarreta knocking off senior captain Mara Hirtle in a playoff that reached the second hole, while the Mids retook the lead with sophomore Hallie Brisco's 1-up win over Lilia Henkel and extended the lead with sophomore Sue Lee defeating Julia Paviet, 2-up.
 
Navy clinched the win with junior Bridget Hoang beating Liz Coffren, 2-up, but Emilie Clausen got the Blue Hens' last point by defeating freshman Una Johnson, 6 & 5.
 
"I'm really proud of the grit that the team showed today," said head coach Kylee Sullivan. "Conditions were tough and Delaware is a deep team that played really well. A win today is a great way to build some momentum going into the home stretch of our spring season."
 
Navy will close out the regular season on April 13-14 when it hosts the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
