ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Former Navy track & field standout Regine Tugade-Watson ('20), representing Guam, prepares to compete in the 100m sprint at the 2024 Paris Olympics later this week.Â
Making her third straight appearance on the Olympic stage, Tugade-Watson qualified by delivering an outstanding performance at the 2024 Micronesian Games in Majuro where she won a gold medal, set a new Micronesian Games record and broke Guam's national record in the women's 100m sprint with a time of 11.76.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), she finished the 100m preliminary heat with a time of 12.17 to finish fourth in the heat (top three advanced). Overall, Tugade-Watson finished 13th out of the 27 competitors, just missing out on advancing to the next round of competition.Â
The sprinter also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics as a plebe, finishing third in her heat (top two advanced) during the preliminaries.
The Dededo, Guam, native left her mark in the Navy program record book where she recorded the second fastest 100m time of 11.82. Tugade-Watson was a four-year track and field athlete at the Academy, serving as team captain as a senior during the 2019-20 season. During her career, she was a two-time All-Patriot League honoree, claiming second-team distinction in the 200m dash in 2019 and as a part of the 4x100m relay team in 2018. In addition, Tugade-Watson was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week three times in her career.
