BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Lauren Toms of the Navy women's soccer team was announced on Monday as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for her effort in the Mids' conference opener this past Friday night. The honor is the first of the freshman defender's young career.
Playing in her first-ever Patriot League contest, Toms (Fr., Fairplay, Md.) left her mark almost immediately as she ranged up from her defensive wing position, met
Ande Swan's pass and struck home the first goal of the game for Navy in the 10th minute. That goal stood up as the game-winning score as Toms and the Mids' defense held the Mountain Hawks off the scoreboard as part of a 3-0 victory. She played 76 minutes on Friday night on defense.
Through 11 games this season, Toms has scored two goals over 687 minutes of action.
Navy will continue early-season Patriot League play on Wednesday night with a home matchup versus Loyola. Kick-off between the Mids and Greyhounds is set for 7 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
