ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's soccer team picked up a pair of weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday afternoon, as freshman
Wyatt Stevens was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and senior
Wasswa Robbins was honored as the PL Midfielder of the Week.
Stevens continued a hot collegiate start by tallying goals in both of the Midshipmen's games last week, while Robbins had a career evening in the Mids' 3-0 win over Niagara last Monday with a three-point performance.
Stevens scored the game-winner in Navy's 3-0 victory over Niagara, taking a pass and breaking down the middle of the field before firing a rocket from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper. The rookie then found the Mids' then-game-tying goal at Longwood in the 64th minute when
Noah Ward's cross was headed away by a Longwood defender right to Stevens, who turned a low shot towards the left post that got past the outstretched Lancer keeper. Starting all five games and registering a league-best three goals, Stevens is the first Navy freshman with three goals in a season since
Charlie Kriel's three tallies during the 2021 campaign.
For Robbins, the senior had a breakout performance in Navy's 3-0 victory over Niagara, tallying his first collegiate goal and assist while playing 47 minutes off the bench. After setting up
Tommy Lockhart's goal late in the first half, Robbins found a corner kick come to him at 73', raced towards the goal line and put an arching shot on net that found the top right corner. The three-point effort is the most by a Navy player since
Cristian Coelho,
David Jackson and
A.J. Schuetz all tallied a goal and assist against UMBC on Oct. 3, 2023.
Stevens marks the first Navy player since
David Jackson on Sept. 4, 2023 to win Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, while Robbins is the first Midshipman to claim the league's Midfielder of the Week since Wyatt Millard did so on March 2, 2021.
Navy returns home on Tuesday to play non-conference foe George Washington at 7 p.m.
