PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams lead Kenyon and trail Princeton after Friday's opening day of competition between the three teams at DeNunzio Pool in Princeton, N.J.
In the men's meet, Navy leads Kenyon by the score of 167-36 and trails Princeton, 147-58. Navy's women's team is in front of Kenyon, 111-94, and behind Princeton, 143-62.
Princeton also leads Kenyon 168-35 in the men's meet and 138-67 in the women's dual.
Friday's scores will carry over into Saturday morning's competition.
Placing first overall in an individual event for Navy was
Juan Mora as he won the men's 100 breaststroke in a time of 53.05. He touched the wall first by more than three-tenths of a second ahead of Princeton's Andrew Zou (53.38).
The Navy women's 400 medley relay team also won its event.
Tiffany Shields,
Lauren Walsh,
Caroline Irwin and
Catherine Weaverling combined for a time of 3:43.29, which gave the Mids the victory by nearly one full second (3:44.20).
Shields, Walsh and Weaverling each also placed first during an individual event against Kenyon. Shields posted a time of 56.60 in the 100 back, Walsh defeated the Owls in the 100 breast with her time of 1:01.92 and Weaverling placed first in the dual in the 200 fly with her effort of 1:59.96.
Also winning an event against Kenyon were
Sarah Eldridge in the 400 IM (4:23.78) and
Marin Rose in the 1000 free (10:08.47).
The Mids defeated the Owls in each of the men's events on Friday. In addition to Mora's overall victory in the 100 breast, Navy also won both the 200 free and 400 medley relay races.
Luca Oliva placed first in the dual against Kenyon in a pair of events, the 400 IM (3:51.14) and 1000 free (9:16.57).
Ben Irwin very nearly won the overall 100 back race as he posted a time of 46.81 to narrowly finish second by three-hundredths of a second to Princeton's Tyler Hong.
Brothers Everert Andrew and
Lachlan Andrew each finished in first place in an event against the Owls. Everet did so in the 200 free (1:35.93) and Lachlan accomplished it in the 50 free (20.26).
The additional Navy swimmer who defeated the Owls was
Tyler Kaminski in the 200 fly (1:48.54).
In the diving events,
Mackenzie Kim placed first in the women's dual against Kenyon on both boards, as
Blakeman Shaw in the men's dual. Kim posted scores of 270.65 on the one meter and 249.65 in the three-meter event. Shaw recorded 295.00 points on the one-meter board and 288.05 in the three-meter competition.
