Men’s Tennis to Open Spring Season this Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team opens its dual meet season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders.  The Mids will play two matches against Penn Friday at the Hamlin / Hecht Tennis Center in Philadelphia (9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m.) and then on Saturday play host to St. Bonaventure (8 a.m.) and Saint Francis (5 p.m.) in the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Live video will be available from each of Navy's matches against Penn.  Live results will be available from both of the team's matches Saturday.  All multimedia links can be found at NavySports.com.

Navy returns 12 letter winners from last season's team that ended the year with a 28-15 overall record, a 5-2 record against Patriot League opponents and a berth in the championship match of the league tournament for the 12th championship in a row.

Leading Navy in singles victories during the 2024 fall slate was Nathan Nguyen with seven.  He finished one victory ahead of J.J. Etterbeek, Jason Kim, Tommy Kim and Jake Young.

A trio of doubles teams accrued four victories this past autumn.  The pairing of Herrick Legaspi and Charlie Spencer and the duo of George Cutone and Luke Garner each posted 4-0 records.  Additionally, Garner and Legaspi combined for a 4-1 record as a team.  Those two players also ended the fall with 10-2 individual records in doubles.

Penn Preview
The Quakers posted an overall record of 16-12 last season and ended Ivy league play with a 2-5 record.

Penn defeated Navy by the score of 7-0 in a pair of matches last season.

The Quakers hold a 63-34-1 advantage in the series with Navy, which dates back to the 1911-12 season.

The Penn doubles team of Tal Goodman and Parashar Bharadwaj enters 2025 ranked 74 nationally.

St. Bonaventure Preview
The Bonnies finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 11-13.  St. Bonaventure posted a 2-3 record during the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season and advanced to the second round of the conference tournament.

The Mids defeated the Bonnies, 4-3, last season in Annapolis.  The result gave Navy a 10-1 lead in the series.

Saint Francis Preview
Saint Francis registered a 12-8 record last season, which included a 5-1 mark against Northeast Conference opponents.  The Red Flash fell, 4-1, to top-seeded Binghamton in the championship match of the conference tournament.

Navy posted a 5-2 victory over Saint Francis during the 2024 season.

The Mids lead the series with the Red Flash by the count of 10-1.
