PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Navy men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches to Penn Friday at the Hecht Tennis Center in Philadelphia.  The Quakers (2-0) defeated the Mids (0-2) by scores of 6-1 and 7-0, respectively, on the opening day of the season for both teams.

Luke Garner registered the lone point for the Mids as he posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tal Goodman at No. 3 singles in the morning match.

Herrick Legaspi played well each of his singles matches.  He lost a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles to Manfredi Graziani in the morning dual.  Legaspi then fell, 7-5, 6-4, to Goodman at No. 2 singles in the afternoon match.

Navy had a good opportunity to claim the doubles point in the second half of the doubleheader.  Aniketh Ayinala and Jason Kim narrowly lost a 6-4 match at No. 1 doubles to Sanjeev Chundu and Aaron Sandler.  Also, George Cutone and Garner held a 5-4 lead over Goodman and Parashar Bharadwaj –– the No. 74 ranked team in the NCAA –– when the match was stopped due to the point being determined.

Navy will open its home slate Saturday when the Mids play host to St. Bonaventure at 8 a.m. and Saint Francis at 5 p.m. in the Tose Family Tennis Center.
