ANNAPOLIS, Md. --
Donovan Draper from the Navy men's basketball team garnered a pair of weekly awards on Monday as he was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for his sport as well as the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman.
Draper averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists a game in helping the Mids to a pair of victories at the start of the Patriot League campaign. Â He shot a collective 73.7 percent (14-19) from the floor, including a 3-5 effort from three-point range, during Navy's 81-58 victory over American and the team's 71-70 win over Lafayette.
Draper neared a triple-double in the league opening win against the Eagles as he produced 17 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Â He was 6-7 from the floor in the game.
Draper then drained a mid-range jumper with 2.1 seconds remaining to account for the final points in the victory over the Leopards. Â The Mids trailed 70-65 with 2:24 remaining and 70-67 with 1:04 left on the clock. Â Draper was 5-6 from the field in the second half to end the game with 17 points to go along with nine caroms and three steals.
Navy takes to the road for a pair of games this week. Â The Mids will play Wednesday at Holy Cross before playing Saturday at Loyola.
