ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team continued its fall schedule with two regattas on Saturday and Sunday, placing fourth as the hosts of the Open Atlantic Coast Championship finals while taking 14th at the Yale Women's Regatta in New Haven, Conn.
Â
Hosting the most competitive collegiate regatta of the fall in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals in Annapolis, Navy was part of the top 18 teams from around the country to advance through the first round earlier in October.
Â
The first day saw light and lumpy conditions, as the Midshipmen started out a bit inconsistent. Winning races but also finishing near the back in both fleets through the first two sets, Navy settled out a bit towards the end of the day and closed Saturday in fifth place. Sunday started out with a moderate southerly that built throughout the day with Navy sailing well, but a few deep finishes kept the team just out of the trophy places.
Â
Navy winded up fourth overall with seniors
Nathan Smith and
Ellie Alex and sophomore
Owen MacWilliams finishing seventh in the "A" division while juniors
Henry Allgeier,
Fiona Cullen and
Spencer Dominguez were just one point out of first in the "B" division, placing second.
Â
Meanwhile at the Yale Women's Interconference Regatta, Navy had a hard time putting races together and came in 14th overall in the 18-team field, as senior
Ava Farley and junior
Josie Sherry finished 13th in the "A" division while juniors
Kate Zurinskas and
Mary Dwyer placed 14th in the "B" division.

Navy ends this month's slate with both the MAISA Fall Women's Regatta and the War Memorial Regatta on Oct. 25-26.
