Men’s Soccer Falls in Defensive Battle with Bucknell

Navy Defeated by Bison, 1-0, in Final Home Game of the Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its final home game of the 2025 season, the Navy men's soccer team (3-7-7, 0-5-3 PL) was unable to rally late in a 1-0 loss to Patriot League foe Bucknell (9-3-4, 4-2-2 PL) on Friday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Chasing the equalizer after the Bison's Drew Roskos struck the opening blow three minutes into the contest, the Midshipmen had several near chances to draw even including a pair from senior Andrew Schug in the waning minutes of both halves, but Bucknell held on to earn its berth in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament and eliminate Navy from postseason contention.

While the Mids got the first chance of the match when a 3' header from senior Jalen Grant off a free kick was snapped up by Freddie Lapworth, the Bucknell goalkeeper's long-range clarence downfield found Roskos at 4', who raced past the Navy defense and beat Navy senior goalkeeper Robert Eaton from just inside the 18-yard line.

Navy quickly tried to tie it when senior Tommy Lockhart kicked a loose ball off a corner at 4', but the shot sailed just wide of the left post. Eaton then stopped Jack Lucas in the 16th minute while a pair of shots from Lucas at 27' and Cohen Weaver at 28' were blocked by the Mids. Schug then almost got the equalizer in the 39th minute after heading a Stephen Nelson corner kick on goal, but the Bison backline kicked the potential game-tying tally out of danger just before going over the goal line.

Another Grant header that went off-target at 51' and a late offsides call on the Mids at 53' stymied two more chances to start the second half, while another Navy offsides at 75' negated another opportunity.

Eaton denied Nate Coughlin in the 81st minute to keep the Mids in striking distance, but the Mids' best chance of the night came at 84' when Schug's low kick from the far side just missed the right post. Sophomore Keane Brown had Navy's last chance, sending a long-range shot towards the top corner that Lapworth knocked over the cage.

Lapworth would secure the two-save shutout, while Eaton also finished the evening with two saves.

Head Coach Tim O'Donohue Comments
"It was a very even up-and-back game. They were opportunistic with their big chance and we missed some very big chances. The effort and play of our guys was good, I'm proud of their effort and determination but we just have not been clinical enough in the final third of the field."

Match Notes
• Navy is now 31-17-4 in the all-time series with Bucknell.
• Navy's six shots recorded matched a season-low.
• Eaton has tallied multiple saves in 12-straight games.
