ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Entering two squads into its home tournament, the Navy women's golf team wrapped up play Sunday by taking fourth and ninth place at the Navy Fall Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
Playing on their home course at the par-72, 6,084-yard U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club, the Midshipmen saw their "A" team recover after an opening-round score of 30-over par 318 to shoot a 13-over par 301 on Sunday and climb its way into fourth-place finish at 43-over par 619. For the Mids' "B" team, a Saturday score of 28-over par 316 was followed by a second-round mark at 36-over par 324, placing the squad ninth with a weekend total of 64-over par 640.
Taking the team title was Stetson at 21-over par 597 to edge out runner-up Bucknell by five strokes, while Howard's Paris Fielding won the individual medal with a 1-under par 143 weekend that held off Stetson's Filippa Jansson by one stroke.
The lone Navy "A" golfer in the leaderboard's top-10 was freshman
Angelina Kim at 8-over par 152, who tallied an opening round of 77 and followed with a 75 score on Sunday to propel herself into a tie for eighth place.
Finishing two strokes behind Kim and tying for 11th on the leaderboard, junior
Emma Tang bounced back after shooting 81 on Saturday to post a team-low round of 73 on Sunday and wrapping up the event at 10-over par 154.
Placing 32nd with a 14-over par 158 score, sophomore
Vivian Cressman helped the "A" squad with a round of 76 to begin the event before shooting 82 on Sunday. Rounding out the "A" lineup, senior
Sue Lee used rounds of 84 and 75 to pull into a tie for 37th at 15-over par 159, while junior
Keira Howard finished 44th after rounds of 84 and 78 gave her a score of 18-over par 162.
Pacing the "B" team was sophomore
Megan Kirkpatrick, who collected rounds of 79 and 78 to garner a weekend total of 13-over par 157 and take a share of 27th place.
Tying Cressman for 32nd on the leaderboard, senior captain
Hallie Brisco shot 78 on Saturday and followed with a round of 80 the next day to close out a 14-over par 158 score. Notching rounds of 78 and 84 over the weekend, junior
Una Johnson ended in 44th alongside Howard at 18-over par 162.
Rounding out the "B" team, freshman
Elizabeth Hang had rounds of 81 and 82 to place 51st at 19-over par 163, while fellow rookie
Malerie Lague shot rounds of 85 and 84 for a weekend total of 25-over par 169 that placed her 62nd.
Navy is set to close the fall season on Oct. 25-26 at the Lehigh Invitational in Bedminster, N.J.
