Opening Kick
•    Navy (5-0, 3-0 in the American) and Temple (3-2, 1-0) will square off Saturday afternoon (4:00 pm) on ESPN2 at Lincoln Financial Field (67,594) in Philadelphia. 
•    Navy and Temple are among 7 teams still undefeated in conference play in the American.
•    A win on Saturday would make the Mids bowl eligible for the second-consecutive year. Navy has played in 25 bowl games all time, including last year's 21-20 win over Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Navy owns a 13-11-1 record in bowl games, winning 6 of the last 7.
•    Navy is Temple's Homecoming opponent.
•    Temple is the only team in the FBS that has yet to commit a turnover.
•    Navy leads the all-time series against Temple 10-9.  The Mids won last year's game 38-11 in Annapolis. Temple won the last time the two teams met at Lincoln Financial Field 32-18 in 2023. The Mids are 3-4 all-time in games played at Temple.
•    Over the last 20 years, the Mids are 11-9 the game after playing Air Force (6-5 after a win).
•    Navy owns a 753-603-57 (.553) record over 145 seasons. The 753 wins are the 23rd most in FBS history, the most of any Service Academy and the most of any team not in the Autonomy 4. 
•    It will be a big weekend in Philadelphia and the surrounding area for the Naval Academy, the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. Not only will the Navy football team be playing at Temple, but the Navy soccer teams will be hosting Army in a doubleheader on Friday night in Chester at Subaru Park, the home of the Philadelphia Union. The doubleheader is part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. The weekend also kicks off a celebration in Philadelphia of the 250th birthdays of the Navy and Marine Corps from Oct. 9-16 and Nov. 7-11. •    Brian Newberry has started off his head coaching career at Navy with a 20-10 record, which is the best 30-game start by a Navy head coach since Wayne Hardin went 20-9-1 from 1959-61. Ken Niumatalolo, the winningest head coach in school history, started his first-30 games at Navy with a 19-11 record.
•    Navy has won 16 of those 20 games under Newberry by double figures. The only non double-figure wins in the Newberry era were a a 27-24 victory over North Texas in 2023, a 21-20 win over Oklahoma in the 2024 Armed Forces Bowl and the wins over the last two weeks - a 21-13 victory over Rice and a 34-31 win over Air Force.
•    Navy has 14 players from the state of Pennsylvania including senior snipe Eli Heidenreich (Pittsburgh), senior kicker Nathan Kirkwood (Greencastle), senior running back Shane Reynolds (Glen Mills) and senior running back Alex Tecza (Pittsburgh).
•    Navy started the year playing 4 of its first-5 at home. The Mids will finish the season with 4 of its final-5 games played away from Annapolis.    
•     Navy has started the season 5-0 in back-to-back years for the first time since 1978-79. The 1978 team started 7-0 and finished 9-3, which included wins over Air Force and Army and a win over BYU in the inaugural Holiday Bowl. The 1979 team started 6-0 and finished 7-4, which included wins over Air Force and Army.
•    Navy's 14 first-time starters this year are tied with Louisiana Tech for 3rd most in the country. 
•    Navy has won 8-consecutive games dating back to last year, which is tied for the 3rd-longest active winning streak in the country with Missouri. American Conference foe Memphis has the longest winning streak at 10 games, while Ohio State has won 9 in a row.
•    Navy has won 5-consecutive games against American Conference opponents dating back to last year. That is tied with Memphis for the 5th-longest conference winning streak in the country. Boise State leads the nation with 13 straight, while Arizona State has won 8 in a row. Duke and Buffalo have won 6-straight conference contests.
•    Navy has won 3-consecutive road games dating back to last year. That is tied for the 6th-longest streak in the country with Ohio State, UNLV and North Texas. Oregon leads the way with 9-straight conference road wins.

•    Navy is one of three teams in the American still unbeaten, joining Memphis and North Texas. Nationally, 15 teams remain unbeaten after 5 teams lost their first game last week. The American, the Big Ten and the SEC are the only conferences with 3 or more unbeatens left.
•    Navy, Duke, Ole Miss, Virginia and Western Kentucky are the only teams in the FBS that are 3-0 in conference play.
•    The Mids are averaging 317.4 rushing yards per game this season, which leads the FBS. Florida State is 2nd, averaging 295.4 yards per game. 
•    Navy's 19 rushing touchdowns are tied for the 3rd most in the country with Vanderbilt. Memphis leads the country with 22, while Florida State has 20.
•    Navy has recorded 450 yards or more of total offense in all 5 games this year. It's the 1st time Navy has had 450 or more yards in five-consecutive games in school history. Navy is 12th in the country in total offense per game, averaging 490.4 yards per game.
•    Navy has won 76-consecutive games at home when leading after 3 quarters, the nation's longest streak. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was Oct. 23, 1999, when the Mids led Akron 29-13 and lost 35-29.
•    The Air Force game marked the 1st time Navy has had a 100-yard rusher, 100-yard receiver and 300-yard passer (130 rush by Blake Horvath, 243 rec by Eli Heidenreich, 339 pass by Blake Horvath) since 2000 in a loss against Tulane (115 rush by Brian Broadwater, 119 rec by Josh Bock & 119 rec by Dominic Bailey, 302 pass by Brian Broadwater).
•    Navy is 2nd in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 17.7 yards per catch. 
•    The Navy offense is 3rd in the country in red zone touchdown percentage with 19 touchdowns in 23 attempts (.826).
•    The Navy offense is 3rd in the nation in 3rd down conversions, converting 34 of 58 (.586).
•    The Mids are tied for 1st in the country in sacks allowed, giving up just 1 sack on the year (0.20 / gm).
•    Navy has given up just 3.20 tackles for loss per game, which is tied for the 6th fewest in the country.
•    Navy has had 7 offensive plays go for 60 yards or more, which is tied with Air Force for the most in the country. The Mids have had 8 plays of 50 yards or more, which is tied with USC for the 2nd most in the country. Navy has had 17 plays of 30 yards or more, which is tied for the 8th most in the country. 
•    Blake Horvath (Sr. / QB) has thrown just 7 interceptions in 215-career attempts for an interception percentage of .033 per attempt. That mark is tied with Will Worth for the 3rd-best average in school history. The Navy record is .017 set by current Navy radio analyst Keenan Reynolds, who threw just 8 interceptions in 462-career attempts.
•    Horvath's 176.0 career pass efficiency rating is the highest of any quarterback in Service Academy history with 150 or more attempts. Dating back to 1956, he is 1 of just 10 quarterbacks in the FBS to have a career passing efficiency of 175.0 or better with 200 or more passing attempts. Horvath is 8th on that list. Cam Newton (178.2) is 7th, Sam Bradford (175.6) is 9th. Tua Tagovailoa is the leader (199.4).
•    Horvath and Malcolm Perry (2016-19) are the only Navy football players in school history to have multiple runs of 90 yards or more in a career. 
•    Horvath's average of 8.3 yards of total offense per play (4,190 yards on 506 plays) over his career is the 2nd-best mark in school history. Shun White holds the record at 8.9 (2005-08).
•    Horvath is averaging 17.2 yards per completion in his career (132 comp / 2,276 yds), which is the 2nd-best average in school history. The record is 18.8 set by Ricky Dobbs (2008-10).
•    Horvath's 469 yards of total offense (130 yds rush, 339 yds pass) in Navy's win against Air Force is a school record. The previous record was 428 yards set by Will Worth in a loss at USF in 2016. Horvath is the 1st quarterback in the FBS to throw for 330 yards or more with 3 or more touchdowns and rush for 130 or more yards with 1 or more touchdowns in a game since LSU's Jayden Daniels against Florida in 2023.
•    Horvath has rushed for over 100 yards in 3-straight games, making him the first Navy player to do that since Malcolm Perry had 10-consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2019.
•    Horvath is ranked as the 2nd-best quarterback in the FBS by Pro Football Focus with a grade of 91.7. His 91.4 grade as a passer is the best in the FBS. His 78.0 grade as a runner is the 10th best in the FBS for a quarterback.
•    Pro Football Focus ranks Landon Robinson (Sr. / NG) as the  best overall interior defensive lineman in the FBS with a grade of 90.4. Robinson is rated as the best pass rushing interior defensive lineman by PFF with a grade of 91.6.
•    Eli Heidenreich's (Sr. / Snipe) 14-career receiving touchdowns are the most in school history. Heidenreich's 1,466 career receiving yards are the 3rd-most in school history. He is 160 yards away from 2nd-place Jamir Tillman and 270 yards from record holder Rob Taylor.
•    Heidenreich had a career-high 8 catches for a school-record 243 yards and a school-record tying 3 touchdown catches in Navy's win over Air Force. He is the 1st Navy player in school history to surpass 200 yards receiving in a game. The previous record was 194 yards by Cory Schemm in the 1996 Aloha Bowl against Cal.  
•    Heidenreich is ranked as the 3rd-best running back in the FBS with a grade of 91.7 (PFF has Heidenreich as a fullback, which he is most definitely not) and his receiving grade of 94.0 is the best of any running back or wide receiver.  Alex Tecza (Sr. / RB) is ranked as the 4th-best pass catching running back in the FBS with a grade of 87.9.
•    Either Heidenreich or Tecza have scored a touchdown for Navy in 22 of their 28-career games (they have scored in the same game 8 times, including the first-3 games in 2025). Heidenreich has 21-career touchdowns (7 rush, 14 rec), while Tecza has 19 (17 rush, 2 rec). 
•    Braxton Woodson's (Jr. / QB) 180 yards rushing on 7 carries against VMI are the most yards rushing on 7 carries or less in an FBS game since LSU's Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 188 yards on 6 carries against Arkansas on Nov. 23, 2019 in a 56-20 LSU win.
•    Jackson Gutierrez (So. / QB-RB) is listed on the depth chart at two different positions. He is the only player in the FBS to be listed on the three-deep depth chart at quarterback and another position.  
•    Ira Oniha (Jr. / CB) broke up 3 passes in Navy's 42-23 win over Tulsa. That mark is tied for the 2nd most at Navy in the last 20 years.

•    ESPN2 will carry Saturday's game with Roy Philpott (play-by-play), Sam Acho (color) and Taylor Davis (sidelines) on the call.
•    The Navy Football Pregame Show with Joe Miller, Mike James, Keenan Reynolds, Keith Mills and Scott Wykoff will get underway at 3:00 pm on the Navy Radio Network, followed by game action beginning at 4:00 pm. Radio coverage for the Temple game is presented by Navy Exchange.
•    Miller, James, Mills and Wykoff will recap the day's events in a 30-minute postgame show.
•    WBAL Radio (1090 AM) will air a one-hour Navy Insiders Show to preview the Temple game on Saturday from 2:00-3:00 pm with host Scott Wykoff.
•    WNAV (1430 AM) launched unprecedented coverage of Navy football with the debut of Navy Game Day in 2025.

Scouting Temple

Head Coach: K.C. Keeler

•    The Owls are off to a 3-2 start, including a 1-0 mark in the American. Temple owns victories over UMass (42-10), Howard (55-7) and a huge win last weekend over UTSA (27-21).  The only teams to beat Temple are currently ranked and undefeated at 5-0 - #6 Oklahoma (42-3) and #13 Georgia Tech (45-24). The Owls gave Georgia Tech fits into the 3ird quarter before the Yellow Jackets pulled away.
•    Temple has 40 transfers on its roster, including 11 from the autonomy four. 
•    This is the first year for K.C. Keeler, who is one of the most respected coaches in college football, as the head coach at Temple. Keeler came to Temple from Sam Houston State.
•    Keeler coached against Navy 5 times when he was the head coach at Delaware and beat the Mids twice.
•    Brian Smith is the Temple defensive coordinator. Smith came to Temple from Rice where he was the defensive coordinator for 7 years. Last year, his Rice defense completely shut down the Navy offense in a 24-10 upset of the Mids.
•    Redshirt senior quarterback Evan Simon, a transfer from Rutgers, leads the Temple offense. Simon has completed 59 percent of his passes for 805 yards with an incredible ratio of 12 touchdowns and no interceptions. Simon is 69-117 passing. His 12 touchdown passes are the 14th most in the FBS.
•    Redshirt senior running back Jay Ducker, who came to Temple with Keeler from Sam Houston State, leads the rushing attack with 349 yards and 2 touchdowns, while redshirt senior running back Hunter Smith, a transfer from Louisiana-Monroe, has 200 yards rushing and a touchdown.
•    The Temple receiving corps is led by redshirt junior wide receiver Jojo Bermudez (17 catches for 211 yds and 3 TDs), a transfer from Delaware, and redshirt junior wide receiver Colin Chase (14 catches for 113 yds and 1 TD), a transfer from St. Thomas. 
•    Temple is the only offense in the FBS that has yet to commit a turnover this year (5th in the country in turnover margin). It also does a great job of possessing the ball, ranking 20th in the country (32:35).
•    Defensively, the Owls are led by redshirt junior safety Avery Powell (25 tackles), a transfer from Missouri State, and junior linebacker Curly Ordonez (21 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss), a transfer from Independence Community College.
•    Fifth-year senior corner Ben Osueke, a transfer from Blinn Junior College, is 17th in the country in passes defended (1.2), while redshirt senior outside linebacker Cam'Ron Stewart, a transfer from Rutgers, is 16th in the nation in sacks (0.8 / gm) and 24th in tackles for a loss per game (1.3).
•    The Owls are ranked 15th in the FBS in kickoff return defense (15 yds / return) and 21st in punt returns (13.9).
