ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team competed in a pair of local regattas this past weekend, hosting the Lloyd Phoenix U.S. Offshore Championship while also sending two boats to the Annapolis Yacht Club's Fall Series.

Facing nine other teams on the Navy 44s for the U.S. Offshore Championship, the Midshipmen faced very light wind over the weekend but the were still able to get off several races over the three-day regatta. While Friday closed with the Mids standing third overall, a tough Saturday and Sunday found Navy finishing the regatta in seventh place, as senior skipper
Nancy Rhodes guided a crew that included seniors
Samuel Mentel,
Matthew Irving,
Connor McKee and
Josh Fisher as well as juniors
Logan Hayes,
Jackson Lubalin and
Nico Martinez.

In the AYC Fall Series, Navy sent two J105's to the regatta, as AVENGER was skippered by sophomore
Lawton Harper and CONSTELLATION was skippered by junior
Aden Newman. Conditions were tough as the teams battled light winds and strong currents the entire weekend in one of the most competitive One Design fleets in the country.

In the end, Newman guided CONSTELLATION to an 18th-place finish alongside junior
Junhee Park and sophomores
Margret Bush,
Savannah Koscho,
Brendan Hawko and
Jack Yuskaitis. In the other Navy boat, Harper led the AVENGER crew to 19th place, aided by junior
Brent Anderson and sophomores
Michael Grube,
Mitchell Krueger,
Maggie Gordineer and
Nolan Stanfield.
