ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Thursday's opening day of the Navy Invitational at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis finished with the Navy men's swimming and diving team in first place and the women's team in third place.  The men's team amassed 1,198 points to lead the field of four full teams and the women's squad tallied 580 points to place in the middle of five teams.

Winning events on the day for the men's team were the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams, Dean Jones in the 500 freestyle and Coleman Yates in the 200 individual medley.

The three-day event resumes Friday with trials heats starting at 10 a.m., diving prelims at 12:30 p.m. and finals for swimming and diving at 6 p.m.
