Water Polo Concludes Regular Season at George Washington

Navy faces George Washington on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy water polo team (19-8, 9-2) concludes the regular season as the Midshipmen travel to Arlington, Va. for a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) game against George Washington (14-14, 7-4) on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Long Bridge Park.

Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 19-8 overall and 9-2 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference.
 
Kiefer Black leads the team with 123 points on a team-high 66 goals and team-best 57 assists. He is followed by Aiden Day and Quinn Bartlett who have 69 and 54 points, respectively. Day has 38 goals and 31 assists, while Bartlett has 31 goals and 23 assists. James Mulvey, Orion Erwin and Luka Sekulic round out Navy's top five. Mulvey has 51 points on 28 goals and 23 assists, while Erwin and Sekulic are tied with 33 points apiece. Erwin has 19 goals and 14 assists, while Sekulic has 23 goals and 10 helpers. Connor Cashman, Rory Begin, and Aiden Berry close out Navy's 30-point scorers. Cashman (21g 10a) and Begin (16g 15a) have 31 points with Berry (20g 10a) following with 30.
 
Defensively, Navy has used three goalkeepers – Ryan Munch, Jack Rodoni, and Jack Hightower – through the season. Munch leads the team with 133 saves, while Rodoni and Hightower follow with 66 and 49 stops, respectively.
 
Munch leads the team with 29 steals with Black and Berry following with 28 and 24, respectively. Jack Mason is next with 23, while Hightower rounds out the top five in takeaways with 20. Maddox Garrahy and Jack Reif lead the team with 37 and 36 ejections drawn, correspondingly. Black follows with 33 with Billy Zech and Holden Seybold closing out the top five with 31 and 30, individually.
 
Scouting the Opposition
The Revolutionaries are 14-14 on the season with a 7-4 mark in the MAWPC. Last weekend, George Washington split a pair of games, defeating Wagner (W, 19-14) before falling to #5 Fordham (L, 25-14). Adonis Vlassis leads GW with a team-high 146 points on a team-best 102 goals and 44 assists. Vlassis also boasts a team-high 48 steals, while Andrea Forno paces the squad with 91 ejections drawn. Vasilije Marinkovic has logged a majority of minutes at goal for the Revolutionaries, recording 255 saves with 336 goals allowed for a 43.2 save percentage.
 
Milestone Watch
Kiefer Black began the 2025 season with 296 points on 162 goals and 134 assists and several individual milestones within his reach. The junior currently has 419 points on 228 goals and 191 assists.
 
He became the seventh player in Navy history with 300 or more career points and the only player program history to eclipse 400 points. With 16 points in Erie, Pa., Black passed current Navy head coach Luis Nicolao ('92) as the program's all-time leader in points.
 
Black became the eighth player in program history with 200 or more goals. With 228 goals entering the weekend, he ranks third in career scores. Black is 45 goals shy of Doug Munz ('95) who stands in second-place with 273 goals and is 54 scores shy of Nicolao who is the all-time leader in goals scored in program history with 282.
 
The junior is already the all-time assists leader in Navy history with 191, passing Tom Popp ('89) who had 139 career helpers for the record. Black is nine (9) helpers shy of becoming the first player in school history with 200 or more assists.
 
This season, Black registered his third consecutive 100-point season (125 points in 2023; 171 points in 2024; 123 in 2025) to become the first player in program history with three 100-point seasons. Last year, the San Diego native joined Nicolao (118 point in 1990; 114 points in 1991) and Munz (113 points in 1993; 184 points in 1994) as the only players in program history with multiple 100-point seasons. Currently, Black has 123 points on 66 goals and 57 assists.

Following the game this weekend, the Midshipmen will have a bye week before traveling to the Bronx, N.Y. for the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship Tournament.
