Five Starting Notes
1 – The first Army-Navy game took place a few days shy of 105 years ago (Feb. 21, 1920).
2 – This is the 102nd season in which Army and Navy are facing each other.  The only four years in which the teams have not met since the first game were the 1928-29 through 1929-32 seasons.  Additionally, this is the 93rd season in a row in which there is an Army-Navy game.
3 – Navy has slightly outscored Army over the last 16 games by a total of 1,065-1,088 points and an average of 68.0-66.6 points per game.
4 – 12 of the last 13 games played in Annapolis have been decided by single digits.  This includes eight games determined by no more than five points.
5 – Navy's Ed DeChellis will be coaching in his 29th Army-Navy game on Sunday. That will tie Navy's Don DeVoe for the most Army-Navy games as a head coach by either school in the series.  Additionally, Navy assistant coach Emmett Davis will be coaching in his 43rd Army-Navy game on Saturday.

Game Information
•    Navy plays host to Army Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall in the annual Star Game -- part of the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA -- between the teams.
•    CBS Sports Network will televise the game.
•    WNAV and WFED will carry a radio broadcast of the game.
•    USAA also is the game sponsor.

Attending the Game
•    Only those vehicles driven by someone with a Department of Defense (DoD)-approved identification card will be allowed onto the USNA.
•    Fans without DoD approved vehicle access to the USNA must park outside of The Yard.  The simplest way to do this is to park ($10 per vehicle) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).  Enter the blue / west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue.  The free fan shuttle bus will leave from and return to the Blue Angel jet.  The fan shuttle bus starts running at 9:30 a.m. and ends one hour after the conclusion of the second game.
•    Fans also can park downtown and walk through the gate one visitors center (52 King George St., Annapolis, MD, 21402) or gate eight.
•    Gate three will be open to pedestrians from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
•    Whether a visitor rides the shuttle bus or walks through one of the USNA gates, everyone ages 18 and over must have a valid picture ID (i.e.: State issued driver's license, student I.D., or a government issued passport). Visitors ages 17 and younger who do not have a valid picture ID must be accompanied by an adult.
•    The doors to the seating area at Alumni Hall will open at 10 a.m.

Series History
•    The two service academy programs first met on Feb. 21, 1920, in West Point.  The Mids emerged with a 24-18 victory in that inaugural game.
•    Navy leads the all-time series by a count of 86-56.  This includes a 47-25 lead in games played at Navy and a 25-13 edge in games played in Alumni Hall.
•    The teams have been fellow members of the Patriot League since the 1991-92 season.  Navy holds a 44-23 lead in league regular season games played by the teams.  The Mids also are in front of the Black Knights, 21-13, in league games played at Navy, all of which have been played in Alumni Hall.

Trophy Game
•    The Alumni Trophy was first presented to the winner of the Star Game in 1984.  It consists of two 15-inch silver plates, one with the U.S. Military Academy seal and one with the U.S. Naval Academy seal.
•    It was a gift of Capt. Victor Delano, USN (Ret.), a 1941 alumnus of the Naval Academy.
•    Due to natural wear and tear of the casing over the years, the trophy was refurbished during the 2022 summer.
•    Army posted a 69-67 overtime victory last year in West Point to earn possession of the trophy.

Close Games Are the Norm
•    Four of the last 10 games in the series have gone to overtime, as have six of the last 18 games.
•    20 of the last 27 games (since Feb. 11, 2012) have been decided by single digits.  This includes 10 games determined by five or fewer points.
•    12 of the last 13 games played in Annapolis (since Feb. 16, 2013) have been decided by single digits.  This includes eight games determined by no more than five points.

Series Longevity
•    This is the 102nd season in which Army and Navy are facing each other.  The only four years in which the teams have not met since the first game in 1919-20 were the 1928-29 through 1929-32 seasons.
•    Navy has faced Army in more seasons than any other opponent.
•    The 102 years of at least one Army-Navy game being played ranks second for the most seasons in which a Patriot League series has been contested
•    Army and Navy are meeting this year for the 93rd season in a row. That is the longest uninterrupted series among Patriot League programs.
•    Army and Navy will play for the 143rd time Saturday.  That ranks fourth for the most games played among Patriot League teams and first for the most games played by the Mids against an opponent.

Series Points Recently
•     The scoring between Army and Navy has been nearly identical over the last 16 games in the series.
•    Navy has outscored Army 1,088-1,065 in this span.

Series Three-Point Field Goals Made
•    The team that has made MORE three-point field goals has posted a 14-10 record over the last 24 games and a 42-31 record since the introduction of the three-point shot (there have been five games in which the teams made the same number of triples).

Halftime Leads in the Series
•    The team LEADING at halftime has posted an 11-4 record over the last 15 games and a 60-18 record since 1974 (there have been three games in which the score was tied at halftime).

Rebounding Leads in the Series
•    The team grabbing MORE rebounds has posted a 19-25 record over the last 47 games (there have been three games in which the teams grabbed the same number of rebounds) and a 47-42 record dating back to 1973 (there have been four games with the teams having the same number of rebounds).

Series by U.S. President
•    19 of the last 20 U.S. Presidents have been in office during an Army-Navy game.
•    The only President since the series began to not be in office during an Army-Navy game was Herbert Hoover (1929-33).  He began March 4, 1933, as the President, but Franklin Delano Roosevelt was sworn into office in ceremonies that began at noon prior to the start of that day's 2:30 p.m. Army-Navy game.

Series Venues
•    Alumni Hall will be playing host to its 39th Army-Navy men's basketball game on Sunday.
•    That total ranks first for the most games in the series to be played in a venue.
•    The eight different Army-Navy venues is tied for fourth for the most in a Navy series against an opponent.

Army-Navy on the Airways
•    Saturday's game will be the 32nd Army-Navy game to be aired by the CBS Sports Network since its founding as CSTV in 2004-05.
•    Since the 1986-87 season, the series also has been televised by CBS (14), ESPNU (3), Home Team Sports (2) and Direct TV (2).

Navy to Wear NASA Uniforms
•    Navy will wear its NASA-inspired uniforms during the game.
•    Fifty-four United States Naval Academy graduates have gone on to become astronauts, the most of any institution. The first Naval Academy graduate to become an astronaut was Alan Shepard ('45), who was the first American in space (May 5, 1961) and was one of NASA's first seven astronauts. Shepard's second space flight was on Feb. 5, 1971, when Apollo 14 landed on the moon and he went on two moonwalks.
•    The Naval Academy Athletic Association and Under Armour partnered with NASA to use the official "meatball" logo to accurately recreate the spacewalk suit.
•    The white uniform with red stripes and the American flag mimic markings on the NASA spacewalk suit. The Helvetica font was used for the numbers and wordmark.  This typeface has been used by NASA extensively for decades, from the space shuttle to signage and printouts. It is one of the most ubiquitous typefaces in the world.
•    The shorts' side-panels feature the NASA astronaut pin which was adopted in 1963. It was first given to Mercury 7 astronauts. The silver pin is awarded to astronauts after completing basic training and the gold pin is awarded after completion of a spaceflight mission.

•    Navy's Jan. 2 win over American moved Ed DeChellis into third place for the most wins as a Navy head coach.

Davis Leads Patriot League Coaches
•    Navy assistant coach Emmett Davis is in his 30th    season as a Patriot League coach. That leads all men's basketball coaches for the most Patriot League seasons in a career.
•    Davis also coached at Navy for five seasons (1987-91)
prior to the Mids joining the Patriot League.
•    The Patriot League is in its 35th season of sponsoring men's basketball (began 1990-91).
