LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams combined for three victories and four second-place finishes Friday at the Patriot League Championship at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Navy women's team entered Friday with a 72-point lead on Army. The Mids were able to expand that cushion out to 190 points by the end of Friday. The Navy men's team began the day in first place just nine points ahead of the Black Knights. The Mids finished the evening session in second place 58 points behind Army.
Winning titles on Friday were
Mackenzie Kim in the women's one-meter diving event,
Everet Andrew in the men's 200 freestyle and the men's 200 freestyle relay team. Navy swimmers also placed second in both the women's and men's 100 breast and 100 back events.
100 Fly - Women
Three Mids qualified for the championship final from the morning trial heats.
Caroline Irwin was the fastest Mid in the final with a third-place time of 53.26.
Tiffany Shields finished in fifth place (54.48) and
Catherine Weaverling placed eighth (54.82).
100 Fly - Men
Lachlan Andrew was the lone Mid to reach the championship final. He qualified sixth in the morning trial heats. Andrew held his seed with a time of 47.97 this evening.
400 IM - Women
Navy's
Sarah Eldridge and
Haley Harris advanced to the A final in the event. Eldridge finished in sixth place (4:23.24) and Harris in seventh (4:24.36).
400 IM - Men
All but one of the eight berths in the championship final were swimmers from a service academy. The Mids placed four in the final with Army having qualified three swimmers. The Black Knights would go 1-2-3 in the final.
Luca Oliva placed fourth for Navy (3:51.97),
Zach Stump finished in sixth (3:53.31),
Dean Jones followed in seventh (3:56.41) and
Jake Douberly placed eighth (3:57.07).
200 Free - Women
Army would win and place second in the final, with
Erin Miller finishing in fourth place (1:50.17) and teammate
Samantha Clifford placing eighth (1:50.95).
Despite the Black Knighs claiming gold and silver, Navy was able to expand its lead to 82 points thanks to the results of the B and C finals.
200 Free - Men
Just as in the 400 IM, the final of the 200 free included four swimmers from Navy and three from Army.
Everet Andrew was the top Mid from the morning as he was seeded third overall in a time of 1:36.30. He would record a 1:35.36 to win the championship final by one-tenth of a second. Ben Stankovich finished just off the podium in fourth place (1:36.29),
Kellan Pattison posted a sixth-place effort (1:37.12) and Stephen Aguirre placed eighth (1:37.63).
Despite the efforts by Andrew, Navy fell 95 points behind Army in the team standings.
100 Breast - Women
Navy had a great morning as it sent four swimmers to the final. Those Mids claimed the second through fifth-place spots in the event.
Lauren Walsh was edged for the victory by 22 hundredths of a second (1:00.93) and
Sydney Bare took the bronze medal (1:02.12).
Maddie Koutavas followed in fourth place (1:02.57) and Elsie Delacuz finished in fifth place (1:03.31).
100 Breast - Men
Juan Mora earned the silver medal for the Mids as he recorded a time of 52.69 in the final. Teammate
Michael Phillips finished in eighth place (54.50) in the event.
100 Back - Women
Another three Mids reached the championship final in the event.
Ela Habjan placed second for the Mids in a time of 54.67 and Shields followed in third place with a time of 54.68.
Jennifer Luong also finished in eighth place (55.60).
Those results allowed Navy to build a 177-point lead heading into diving.
100 Back - Men
Three swimmers attained NCAA B cut times in both the preliminary heats and in the championship final. Army's Johnny Crush won the race in a time of 45.32, Navy's
Ben Irwin placed second with a 46.45 and Loyola's Joe Hayburn placed third with a 46.81.
Navy closed the gap slightly on Army as there was a 68-point difference between the teams prior to the relay race.
1-M Diving - Women
Mackenzie Kim, who won the three-meter board Wednesday night, was the top seed in the final after her score of 300.15 was the best in the afternoon session by 23 points. Kim earned a second title tonight as she posted a score of 296.30 points to win the one-meter event by 5.4 points. Teammate Izzy Olson accrued 238.40 points to place sixth.
200 Free Relay - Women
Navy finished the 200 free relay in third place with a time of 1:32.31.
Caroline Irwin, Weaverling, Luong and Shields comprised the team.
200 Free Relay - Men
Navy closed the night by winning the 200 free relay in a time of 1:18.17. The Mids edged Loyola for the win by seven-hundredths of a second. Navy was in second after the first 50 yards (
Lachlan Andrew), stood in third after 100 yards (
Simon Thompson) and trailed the Greyhounds by 22-hundredths of a second after 150 yards (Irwin).
Everet Andrew then posted a time of 19.43 to give the Mids the narow victory.
