Mids Take Fourth at Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship

The 20th-ranked Navy squash team (16-9) closed out a grueling weekend of action with a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The Mids played 3 matches in the span of 24 hours, including facing the #5-ranked Virginia Cavaliers (8-3) in Saturday's opener. UVA dealt Navy a 9-0 loss before the Mids came back to upset 15th-ranked Franklin & Marshall (7-6) 5-4 on the Diplomats' home court. Navy closed out the weekend on Sunday morning where the Mids simply ran thin on fuel in a hard-fought 7-2 loss to #19 MIT (8-8).

Weekend Highlights
• Virginia swept the Mids in Saturday's first match at 11:00 am, taking all 9 matches by a 3-0 decision
• Eli Levy (Fr / Williamstown, Mass.), Sean Wu (So / Princeton, N.J.) and Holden Woodward (So / Richmond, Va.) are not currently among the Mids' top 9, but saw bonus action against the Cavaliers
• Navy met Franklin & Marshall just hours later in a 4:00 pm match that saw the contest come down to the final match of the day
• Wenqing Tang (Fr / Villanova, Pa.), Alexander Orr (Jr / Haverford, Pa.), Tighe Mullarkey (So/Jr / Locust Valley, N.Y.) and Michael Tierney Jr. (Fr / Berwyn, Pa.) gave Navy an opportunity to win the overall match after each player earned victories in their respective matches
• Senior Matt Wang (Malvern, Pa.) closed out the storybook ending for the Mids, capturing a 3-1 victory over Franklin & Marshall's Kyle Broadhurst at the No. 1 position in front of raucous group of fans
• Navy began its third match in 24 hours on Sunday at 10:00 am, facing an MIT squad who looked to avenge an early-season loss to the Mids in Annapolis
• The Engineers took a 2-0 lead in the match, but Tang scored a big 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-3 victory at No. 2 to cut into the lead
• MIT won back-to-back five-game matches at No. 6 and No. 8, while Sean-Winston Luo sealed the MIT win with a win at No. 4
• Seven of the nine matches between Navy and MIT went at least four games, including three that went the distance

• With his two victories over the weekend, Wang became just the 12th player in Navy squash history to reach the 70-win milestone ... he stands along in 12th place with 70 wins, needing four more to finish out his career among the top 10 ... he stands 15-8 on the year
• Tang, meanwhile, became the 40th different player in school history to reach 20 wins in a season and just the fifth under head coach Tyler Osborne / Alexander Orr (23 wins / 2022-23), Matt Wang (22 / 2022-23), Henry Sparkman (21 / 2022-23) and Millen Randell (20 / 2022-23) when he defeated Franklin & Marshall's Sharan Punjabi, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5. He captured his team-best 21st win of the season on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over MIT's Philip Hyun Su Price. Tang is also the first Navy rookie to reach 20 wins since teammate Alexander Orr achieved it in 2022-23 with 23 wins

• Navy returns home next Saturday to play its final regular-season match of the season, a home match against Chatham (1:00 pm)
• Navy will honor its two senior members - co-captain Lucas Spiro and Matt Wang
