ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team heads west for a series of matches in Southern California over spring break.  The Mids (12-9) will play Tuesday against No. 37 Yale (8-4) in a match being played in Santa Barbara and a match at UC Riverside (2-9), Thursday at UC San Diego (4-9) and at No. 41 UC Irvine (8-3) and Friday at Loyola Marymount (3-8) and at Point Loma (6-2).

Navy Review
The Mids posted a 1-2 record last week as they defeated Morgan State by the score of 7-0 and lost 5-2 decisions to Monmouth and Drexel.

Individually, Herrick Legaspi won all five of his matches last week.  He teamed with Tommy Kim for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles against Morgan State, and then he and Charlie Spencer won a pair of No. 1 doubles matches against Monmouth (6-3) and Drexel (6-3).  Legaspi also won a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles against the Bears and a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 match at the top flight against the Dragons.

Yale Preview - Tuesday, 3 p.m. ET, Santa Barbara
The Bulldogs have dropped a pair of matches to current No. 30 Penn and also lost to No. 52 Notre Dame and No. 53 Memphis.  Included among Yale's wins this season have been victories against No. 31 Cornell, No. 57 Virginia Tech and No. 60 Penn State.

Yale tallied a 12-11 record last season and finished Ivy League play with a 3-4 record.

The Bulldogs hold a 57-14 advantage in the all-time series with the Mids.  The teams first met in the spring of 1925 and faced each other annually from 1947-2010.  Yale won a 5-2 decision over Navy five seasons ago in what was the most recent match in the series.

UC Riverside Preview - Tuesday, 3 p.m. ET, Riverside, Calif.
The Highlanders will play host to Texas Rio Grande Valley on Monday prior to facing the Mids on Tuesday.  UCR has posted wins this year over Hope International and Azusa Pacific and lost matches to Loyola Marymount, UNLV, Air Force and Temple.

The Highlanders tallied a 4-19 record in 2024 and dropped all six of their Big West Conference matches.

Navy defeated UC Riverside, 4-3, in 2019 in what to date has been the only prior meeting of the teams.

UC San Diego Preview - Thursday, 1 p.m. ET, La Jolla, Calif.
The Tritons will face Idaho Tuesday afternoon in their last match before playing host to the Mids Thursday.  UCSD has defeated Point Loma, Montana State, Villanova and Cal Poly this spring, and lost matches to No. 7 San Diego, No. 71 Grand Canyon, San Diego State, Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon.

The Tritons finished last year with an overall record of 9-18 and the Big West mark of 2-4.

Navy has won three of the four previous matches against UCSD, but the Tritons won the most recent match, a 6-1 decision in 2023.

No. 41 UC Irvine Preview - Thursday, 5 p.m. ET, Irvine, Calif.
The Anteaters head into Thursday's match on a four-match winning streak. These four wins have come against Portland, Temple, Villanova and Loyola Marymount.  UCI also has defeated No. 28 Pepperdine and No. 59 Pacific.  Included among the team's losses have been defeats to No. 9 Stanford, No. 33 USC and No. 62 UCLA.

UC Irvine compiled a 17-7 record a year ago, which included a 5-1 record against Big West foes.  The Anteaters won the Big West Conference Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament where it lost a 4-0 match to No. 4 TCU.

Navy and UCI have met on just one prior occasion.  The Anteaters defeated the Mids, 4-0, in 2019.

Point Loma Preview - Friday, 3:30 p.m. ET, San Diego, Calif.
Point Loma competes as a member of the PacWest Conference on the NCAA Division II level.  The match against the Mids will be their first against an NCAA Division I team this season.

Point Loma posted a 13-9 record last season and advanced to the first round of the NCAA (II) Tournament.

The Sea Lions have defeated Navy in both prior matches, with the most recent one being two seasons ago.

Loyola Marymount Preview - Friday, 4 p.m. ET, Los Angeles, Calif.
LMU has registered a victory over UC Riverside and No. 55 Utah and lost to UC Irvine, No. 8 Arizona, No. 28 Pepperdine, No. 40 Arizona State and No. 55 BYU

The Lions tallied an 11-11 record last season and split their eight West Coast Conference matches.

LMU defeated Navy, 7-0, two years ago in what has been the only match played between the teams.
