Women’s Golf Returns to Action at Red Rocks Invitational

Navy to Play in Northern Arizona-Hosted Tournament for Third-Straight Spring, Claimed 2023 Team Title

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Wrapping up its spring break trip out west in a familiar place, the Navy women's golf team returns to competition this Friday through Sunday, March 14-16, with the Red Rocks Invitational at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
 
Hosted by Northern Arizona at the par-72, 6,215-yard course, the three-day 54-hole tournament will begin on Friday with a 1 p.m. MST (4 p.m. ET) shotgun start, while Saturday's second round is also slated for a 1 p.m. (4 p.m. ET) shotgun start and the final round on Sunday is set for an 8:15 a.m. (11:15 a.m. ET) shotgun start.

The Field
In addition to the Midshipmen and the host Lumberjacks, the 19-team field includes Cal Baptist, Columbia, Delaware, Grand Canyon, Illinois State, Montana, Morehead State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Oral Roberts, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Towson, Weber State, Wichita State and Xavier.
 
Last Time Out
Navy placed 10th at the spring-opening Sea Beat Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., back in late January, as the Mids matched Florida Southern at 35-over par 899 …  Navy opened with a round of 298 before shooting the team's best round of the tournament at 293 to close the first day, and then finished the event with a 308 in the final round … Emma Tang paced the Mids by tying for 13th on the player leaderboard, closing at 1-over par 217 … Finishing in a three-way tie for 43rd were Sue Lee and Keira Howard at 10-over par 226, while captain Bridget Hoang came in tied for 53rd at 14-over par 230 … Rounding out the Navy lineup was Megan Kirkpatrick at 26-over par 242, tying for 72nd, while Vivian Cressman competed as an individual, placing 76th at 30-over par 246.
 
Red Rocks Invitational History
The 2025 edition of the Red Rocks Invitational marks its 19th year, with host NAU hoisting the team championship five times, including the inaugural tournament in 2006, while five NAU golfers have taken home the individual crown … The Lumberjacks took home a share of the team title last season alongside Seattle at 17-over par 881, while Northern Illinois' Emily Romancew won individual medalist honors with a score of 3-under par 213 … Navy's 2023 team title broke a two-year winning streak from Grand Canyon at the tournament, while Ellena Slater of Northern Arizona took home individual medalist honors at 4-under par 212 … The Oakcreek Country Club has hosted 17 of the past Red Rock Invitationals, with the 2019 edition being played at the Agave Highlands Golf Course.

Last season saw the Mids finish 11th in the 20-team field at Oakcreek, registering a weekend-best score of 298 in the final round to finish the 2024 event at 35-over par 899, while then-freshman Keira Howard was the Mids' top golfer in 28th place with a weekend score of 7-over par 223 … Making its first appearance in the tournament two years ago, Navy won the 2023 Red Rocks Invitational  with a program-record score of 16-over par 880 … Navy finished 2023's first 36 holes in fourth place at 15-over par 591 before shooting a program-low team score of 1-over par 289 in the final round, finding her way into a fifth-place finish, then-freshman Hallie Brisco shot a team-low of even-par 216.
