CLERMONT, Fla. – The Navy women's triathlon team concluded competition at the Clermont Draft Legal on Sunday at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Fla.
The Mids first participated in the U25 national development race on Saturday that consisted of a 750m swim, a 20k (12.4 mile) bike and a 5k (3.1 mile) run. On Sunday, Navy competed in an NCAA event that included a 375m swim, a 10k (6.2 mile) bike and a 2.5k (1.55 mile) run.
There were 78 competitors in Saturday's event and 32 in Sunday's race. Neither race had team scoring.
"It was a great weekend for the triathlon program. We have been traveling to this race with the club and now varsity and this was one of the most successful weekends we have had with the program," said head coach Billy Edwards.
Freshman Natalie Wang opened the triathlon with a third-place finish in the national development race with a time of 1:03:40. Wang began the race by posting a swim time of 11:46, then clocked a time of 31:38 on the bike before she recorded a run time of 18:23.
Wang crossed the finish line in 33:31 to place third in the NCAA race. She posted a swim time of 5:39, followed by a 16:42 bike time and a 9:14 run effort.
Freshman Dylan Cashin began her weekend in the national development race with a time of 1:09:12. She posted a solid swim time of 11:52, followed by a bike time of 34:27 and concluded the event with a 20:39 run.
Cashin had a big Sunday as she placed 11th in the NCAA race. She clocked the fastest swim time on the team of 5:38.
MC Kistler competed in the national development race with a time of 1:14:04. She opened the race with a swim time of 12:32. The Apex, N.C., native finished the bike with a time of 36:07 before she crossed the finish line with a time of 23:03 for her run.
Kistler finished Sunday's race in 36:57. Her swim (5:41), bike (17:21) and run (11:34) times helped her finish in 22nd place.
Ella Sims only raced on Sunday with a time of 40:33. She recorded a swim time of 6:38, finished the bike in 19:20 and ended the run in 11:34.
The Mids will be back in action at the Junior Texas Draft Legal in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 13th.
