ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy's Ben Irwin will compete in three events at this week's NCAA Men's Swimming Championship being held in Federal Way, Wash.  Irwin is entered into Friday's 100 backstroke event and will compete Saturday in both the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly events.

The championship is being contested at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center.  The trials begin at 1 p.m. ET and the finals start at 9 p.m. ET each day.  Links to live results and ESPN+ live video from the meet can be found at NavySports.com.

Irwin, who made the semifinals in the 200 backstroke at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, is making his first appearance at the NCAA Championship.  The sophomore was invited to this year's meet through his 200 back time of 1:40.04, which was a Navy, Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record and won him the event at the league meet for the second season in a row.  He is seeded 26th in this week's field in the event.  Irwin is also seeded 40th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:42.99 and 41st in the 100 back with his effort of 45.92.

The top-eight swimmers in the trial heats advance to the championship finals and those placing ninth through 16th will compete in the consolation finals.  All championship and consolation finalists earn All-America honors.

This is the fourth time in the last six seasons and the 10th time since 2009 in which a Navy swimmer has qualified for the national championship.  Additionally, at least one Mid has qualified for the meet in either swimming or diving eight times in the last decade and 12 times since 2009.
