ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Putting up a pair of dominant starts last week, Navy sophomore
Matt Archibald was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Leading Navy to victory on Sunday at Lehigh after making a shortened midweek start against William & Mary, the right-hander totaled 11 strikeouts in 10 innings of work, holding the opposition to just three hits and one unearned run. The sophomore also held opponents to a .094 average in those 10 innings.

Pitching a scheduled two-inning start on Tuesday against William & Mary, Archibald held the Tribe to one hit and a walk while punching out four in his eighth start of the campaign.

The righty then tossed a career-high eight innings in the 2-1 win over Lehigh on Sunday to lock up a home Patriot League semifinal series in two weeks. Allowing just two hits and a fifth-inning unearned run, Archibald struck out seven and retired the last nine Lehigh batters he faced to notch the winning decision.

On the year, the sophomore has tallied a 2.84 ERA across 11 appearances and nine starts, racking up 53 strikeouts in just 38 innings and holding opponents to a .113 batting average.

Taking home the award for the first time in his career, Archibald is the fourth Navy pitcher to earn the league's Pitcher of the Week award this season, joining
Tyler Grenn,
Landon Kruer and
Brady Bendik.

Navy finishes a four-game road trip on Wednesday when it travels to Virginia for a 4 p.m. contest against the Cavaliers.
