Navy Men’s Golf Concludes Action at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. // The Navy men's golf team saved its best round for Sunday, as the Mids collectively shot a 1-over par 289 in the final round of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational to place 15th with a 902 (207-306-289). Meanwhile, Jack Tarzy (Jr / Medford, N.J.) shot a 1-under par 70 in the final round to finish among the top 25.

Tarzy was the Mids top player out of the gate, shooting par in the opening round, before closing out Saturday's second round with a 2-over par 74. The third-year player returned to the links on Sunday where he and teammate Danny Auffant (So / Bellevue, Wash.) played their best round of the weekend with a 1-under par 71. Tarzy moved up five spots in the final standings as he was one of five players on the leader board to finish in 25th with a 1-over par 217.

Chip Deegan (Jr / Newport Beach, Calif.), who has Navy's top finisher in each of the first three tournaments of the spring, closed out the tournament in 6th with a 12-over par 228 (78-75-75). He was followed by Ed Scott (Fr / Lemont, Ill.) in 70th (78-77-74=229), Auffant in 72nd (80-80-71=231) and team captain Benjamin Valdez (Sr / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) in 77th (79-85-73=237).

Tournament Notes
• Top-ranked Texas (-20/ 281-286-277=844) and #5 Oklahoma State (-20 / 285-281-278=844) shared the team title as both teams shot a 20-under par 844. 
• Illinois entered the final round as the leader, however Texas and Oklahoma State were sensational in Sunday's final round, as Texas was 11-under and Oklahoma State was 10-under to leapfrog the Illini and finish as co-winners. Illinois, meanwhile, placed third with a 15-under par 849 (285-280-284)
• North Carolina's David Ford, ranked #1 in the country, won his fourth tournament this season as he birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Max Herendeen of Illinois. Ford (69-66-69) and Herendeen (66-69-69) both completed the tournament with a 12-under 204. Oklahoma State's Preston Stout finished just a stroke behind in third (-11 / 66-68-71=205).
• The 15-team field featured 11 teams ranked among the top 100, 7 in the top 50, 5 in the top 20 and 3 in the top 10 - #1 Texas, #5 Oklahoma State and #9 North Carolina
• There are 19 players who are currently ranked among the top 100 who competed, including 5 of the top 10 - #1 David Ford, North Carolina; #2 Daniel Bennett, Texas; #4 Christiaan Maas, Texas; #7 Ethan Fang, Oklahoma State and #10 Tommy Morrison, Texas

Playing in its final regular-season tuneup before the Patriot League Championship, Navy will return to action April 14-15 when it travels to Morgantown, Va. to compete in the Mountaineer Invitational played at Pete Dye Golf Club.
