Women’s Tennis Collects 7-0 Win at Loyola

Navy Gets Back in Win Column to Move to 4-1 in League Play

BALTIMORE, Md. – Making the short drive north to Baltimore, the Navy women's tennis team (14-10, 4-1 PL) bounced back after a tough weekend by posting a 7-0 victory at Patriot League foe Loyola (12-4, 3-4 PL) Wednesday afternoon at the McClure Tennis Center in Baltimore, Md.

Coming off a loss to rival Army that ended a three-game winning streak, the Midshipmen responded in a big way by winning all three doubles matches against the Greyhounds before sweeping the six singles courts as well.

The duo of sophomore Manci Pal and freshman Emma Gu landed the first blow for Navy, grabbing a 6-0 doubles win over the No. 2 Loyola pairing of Jessica Bodewes and Christine Richiez, while senior Emily Tannenbaum and sophomore Olivia Fermo followed with their own 6-0 victory on the top court against Lauren Manwiller and Emma Roeck. Finishing up the doubles sweep was senior captain Kate Lee and sophomore Julia Lee, as the pair notched another 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot over Jocelyn Assael and Emi Shivkumar.

Continuing into singles action, Tannenbaum made quick work of Richiez with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 flight, while rookie Molly Bellia scored a 6-0, 6-1 win on the fourth court against Mia Matriccino and Kate Lee beat Shivkumar, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 slot to clinch Navy's 14th win of the spring.

Playing out, freshman Grace Li posted a 6-3, 6-1 win on the second court over Manwiller and Gu tallied a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Bodewes at the fifth flight, while senior Parvathi Shanker ended the day by battling Elena Hartley to a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 3 position.

Coach Keith Puryear Comments
"Great job today by our ladies, Loyola is a well-coached team and they've had a very good spring season. We talked all week about the little things we learned and wanted to do to be more effective moving forward. Each player and all three doubles teams did that today. We expect a good challenge from BU on Saturday. We'll have a couple of good days of practice and are looking forward to competing at home again this weekend."

• Navy is now 17-0 in the all-time series with Loyola.
