ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's and women's tennis teams each earned All-Academic Team honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for the 2024-25 school year and a combined 13 members of the programs received National Scholar-Athlete laurels from the organization. The ITA made the announcement of the annual academic awards earlier today.
ITA All-Academic Team recognition was given to those programs which totaled a team GPA of at least 3.20 for the full academic calendar, while those who earned ITA National Scholar-Athlete honors posted a grade-point average of at least 3.50 over the entire academic year.
The Navy men's team earned the team honor for the seventh year in a row and the ninth time in the last decade and the Navy women's team garnered the accolade for the first time in five years and the second time overall.
Individuals from the men's team to earn the award were rising seniors
Aniketh Ayinala (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Nathan Nguyen (McLean, Va.) along with rising juniors
Aaron Gu (West Lafayette, Ind.),
Jason Kim (Suwanee, Ga.),
Tommy Kim (Santa Clara, Calif.) and
Zach Quattro (Austin, Texas). Ayinala,
Tommy Kim and Quattro received the honor for a second time in their respective careers while Gu,
Jason Kim and Nguyen were first-time recipients of the laurel.

J.J. Etterbeek (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), rising junior

Zach Giertz (Hurricane, W.Va.) and
Marcus Zhang (Belmont, Calif.).
Including his six years as the head coach at Amherst (2008-14) and 10 seasons as the head coach at Navy (2016-present), Chris Garner's teams have earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition 14 times and his players have amassed 115 ITA National Scholar-Athlete awards.
On the women's side, recent graduates Emily Tannebaum (Commack, N.Y.) and
Sylvia Eklund (Bellevue, Wash.), rising juniors
Anna Jordaan (Denver, Colo.) and
Manci Pal (Riviera Beach, Fla.) and rising sophomores
Molly Bellia (Granger, Ind.),
Emma Gu (West Lafayette, Ind.) and
Grace Li (West Chester, Pa.) earned the individual award. Tannenbaum and Jordaan each garnered the accolade for the second time.
The seven awards this year set a new women's program record. Additionally, Tannenbaum, Eklund, Jordaan, Pal, Bella, Gu, Li and
Olivia Fermo (Smithtown, N.Y.) were all part of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the 2025 spring semester.
