Joe Hunt
Navy's first fall tournament of the year has been named after Joe Hunt since the 2015-16 academic year. The event is named after the 1942 graduate of the USNA who won the intercollegiate national title in singles (precursor to NCAA) in 1941 and the 1943 USTA National Championship (U.S. Open). Hunt lost his life in an aviation training accident in 1945 prior to the end of World War II. He remains the lone player in the sport's history to have won U.S. boys (ages 15 and under), juniors (18 and under), collegiate and national / U.S. Open titles in singles. Hunt was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
One of the outdoor courts on The Yard was dedicated as Joe Hunt Court as part of the inaugural playing of the tournament.
Navy Preview
The Mids return 12 letter winners form last year's team that posted an overall record of 24-15, compiled an 8-0 record during the Patriot League regular season and advanced to the championship match of the league tournament for the 13th-straight time in which the event was held.
