Box Score 3 ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The season-opening Joe Hunt Invitational ended Sunday with the members of the Navy men's tennis team combining for four singles flight wins and three doubles flight victories during the three-day tournament in Annapolis. This included
Herrick Legaspi,
J.J. Etterbeek,
Steve Nguyen and
Lachlan Buckingham winning flights in both singles and doubles.
Legaspi was one of three players to post 2-1 records in the navy 1 singles flight. Legaspi earned the nod for having the best game record (31-26 / 54.4%) of the three.
Steve Nguyen posted a 3-0 record to win the white 1 flight, while Etterbeek won each of his three matches to win the white 2 flight. Etterbeek did not drop a set and lost a combined 10 games in winning his three matches.
Lachlan Buckingham and Jason Li from John Hopkins each posted 2-1 records to lead the green 2 flight, but Buckingham won the head-to-head match between the players by the score of 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5).
In doubles, Buckingham and Legaspi won a trio of matches to win the navy 1 flight. The duo won by the score of 6-3 against George Mason's Monil Lotlikar and Niza Simunyola, as well as the Johns Hopkins pair of Dylan Blenkiron and Allen Gong. The Mids also won a 7-6 (7-3) match Fairleigh Dickinson's Gryffin Minor and Joshua Oboniye.
Winning the navy 2 flight was Etterbeek and
Nathan Nguyen. The Mids were one of three teams to post a 2-1 record within its flight, but they had the best game winning percentage (16-13 / 55.2%) of the three tied teams. The other two tandems were the Fairleigh Dickinson pair of Tauras Mickus and Gareth Ong and the Mary Washington twosome of Evan Fisher and Trevor Rein.
The red 1 flight was won by
Steve Nguyen and
Jake Young with a 3-0 record. The team lost a combined four games in winning its three matches. This included a 6-0 win over Ekansh Kumar and Deniz Okyay of George Mason, a 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson's Andrew Nicolae and Ben Wrann and a 6-3 win against William Fromherz and Matt Scott from Mary Washington.
Navy will next be in action Sept. 25-28 when
Aniketh Ayinala and
Jason Kim compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
