Navy Women’s Rowing Announces Additions of Gevaudan and Tiernan to Staff

Joe Schlosberg adds the pair for his 11th season with the Mids

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Monday, the Navy women's rowing program announced the additions of Victoria Gevaudan and Ainsley Tiernan to its coaching staff. Head Coach Joe Schlosberg welcomes the talented pair of assistant coaches, who both have recently come off of successful collegiate careers competing for programs at Notre Dame & Washington (Gevaudan) and Washington State (Tiernan), respectively.

"I'm very excited to welcome Ainsley and Victoria on board," remarked Schlosberg. "They both bring fresh perspectives and great energy which will serve us well as we look to develop these Midshipmen and this team."

Gevaudan joins Navy staff after breaking into the coaching ranks this past year at Duquesne University. Responsible for coaching the Dukes' fours, Gevaudan saw her crews earn the program's top finishes at the 2025 Atlantic-10 Championship as their 2V4+ came in runner-up, while its V4+ raced to a fifth-place result in the grand final. In addition to her work with Duquesne, she was an assistant coach at Central Catholic High School during the 2024-25 academic year. Gevaudan and the Vikings found great success at the year-end regattas as her 2V and 3V boats took gold and bronze at the 2025 Midwest Scholastic Championship with the 2V crew qualifying for the 2025 USRowing Youth National Championship.

Gevaudan also mentored and coached some of the top American athletes at the 2024 USRowing U-19 Selection Development Camp and this past summer at the 2025 U-19 Selection Camp.

An accomplished collegiate competitor, Gevaudan rowed at Notre Dame as an undergrad from 2019 to 2023 before completing her career at the University of Washington during the 2023-24 season. Rowing with the Fighting Irish, she worked her way into the first varsity boat by her sophomore season and to the position of team captain by the time she was a senior. During her final season in South Bend, Gevaudan helped captain her squad to a fourth-place finish at the 2023 ACC Championship, their highest since 2018. For her accomplishments on- and off-the-water she was honored on the All-Academic ACC Team and CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Teams from 2021 through 2023.

At the University of Washington in 2024, Gevaudan suited up with the third varsity throughout the regular season. As a program, the Huskies finished fifth at the NCAA Championship.

She graduated from Notre Dame with a Bachelor's of Science in Neuroscience and Behavior in 2023. Additionally, Gevaudan completed her Master's of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from Washington in 2024.

"I'm honored and thrilled to join the coaching staff at Navy," commented Gevaudan. "From my short time spent in Hubbard Hall so far, it's clear that the team is a special group of people that have the talent and drive to achieve great things this season. I look forward to mentoring our student-athletes and gaining a deeper understanding of their lives as Midshipmen, as well as learning from all of the staff in the boathouse."

The second newcomer to Schlosberg's staff is Ainsley Tiernan, a 2024 graduate from Washington State University and a recent member of the Cougars' coaching staff. The Connecticut native stayed in Pullman during the 2024-25 year as an assistant coach and director of operations for the Washington State women's rowing program. In that role, Tiernan was in charge of the developmental squad and walk-on program with specific oversight over the Cougars' lower boats in competitions. At the 2025 West Coast Conference Championship, Tiernan and the Cougars placed third overall in the team standings.

In addition to coaching at Washington State, she has experience with the Sparks Rowing organization.

As a collegiate athlete, Tiernan was a four-year coxswain for the Cougars' rowing team. During her time on the water, she helped Washington State's V8 qualify for the 2021 NCAA Championship. At the national regatta, Tiernan and the Cougars finished 15th in the V8 classification. As a junior in 2023, she was chosen as the team's MVP. A well-rounded student-athlete, Tiernan was a three-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete selection.

She graduated from Washington State's Carson College of Business and Honors College with a finance degree in 2024.

"I am incredibly honored and over-joyed to be joining the Navy Women's Rowing staff," said Tiernan. "This is an amazing team full of passionate and intelligent women, and I'm thrilled to support them throughout their rowing journey. I am looking forward to continue learning and growing under head coach, Joe Schlosberg, who is a fountain of knowledge in this sport. Go Navy!"
