ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team will head up to New York this weekend for two days of action at the 2026 West Point Open. A multi-team event that features five ECAC competitors and the Big Ten's Penn State begins on Friday evening with the team meet before individuals advance to Saturday night's event finals. The action at Army's Holleder Center will feature the host Black Knights, Navy, Penn State, Springfield, Simpson and William & Mary. Both nights of the competition are scheduled to have 7 p.m. first touches.
Scouting the Field
Five of the six teams set to appear at the 2026 West Point Open began their campaigns last week with Penn State knocking off Army in a head-to-head meet and Navy doing the same versus Springfield. Simpson was part of a three-team meet at the University of Michigan. Friday will mark the first action of 2026 for William & Mary.
Looking back at 2025, the final regular season standings for team scoring saw Penn State ranked fifth at 322.700 with Navy next up in 10th at 312.263. Army finished the regular season less than a point behind Navy in 11th with a national qualifying average of 311.519. The final three teams at this year's West Point Open ranked 12th (William & Mary, 309.875), 14th (Springfield, 307.063) and 15th (Simpson, 298.388)
Navy at the 2025 West Point Open
Navy kicked off its 2025 season with a strong result at the West Point Open on Friday night. One of six teams suiting up at Army's Holleder Center, the Mids took on a competitive field of high-level opponents in the first meet of the new era of NCAA men's gymnastics that consisted of 'four up, four count' scoring. At the conclusion of the contest, Navy came in third place with a score of 309.50.
The final standings on Friday night consisted of Ohio State on top with 315.80 points and Penn State 3.05 points back with a score of 312.75. Navy's third-place result of 309.50 was 1.2 points clear of Army's 308.30. Two more ECAC squads, William & Mary and Springfield rounded out the standings with respective scores of 300.45 and 300.05.
As a team, Navy scored 51.8 points on the floor exercise, 52.05 on the pommel horse, 48.7 on the rings, 54.65 on the vault, 50.75 on the parallel bars and 51.55 on the high bar. The Mids' vault performance ranked first among the six teams at Friday's competition, while their p-bar lineup posted the second highest team score.
Individually, eight different Midshipmen turned in results during the team event that qualified them for advancement into Saturday night's event finals.
Isaiah Drake led the way with three qualifying performances, while freshman
Jonah Soltz was right behind as he'll be in action twice more on Saturday night.
Brian Solomon also had a standout individual effort on Friday night as he placed third overall in the all-around competition courtesy of a 76.55 cumulative score.
In the event finals, Drake led Navy's contingent as he won the vault and high bar finals, in addition to finishing runner-up for his floor exercise routine. As a program, Navy gymnasts earned eight different podium results for placing top-six. The pommel horse finals saw
Daniel Gurevich and Soltz take home medals as Gurevich placed fifth and Soltz tied for sixth, while Solomon posted the fifth-best score on the vault. The finals for parallel bars and high bar saw Soltz and
Vishal Mandava pick up additional hardware for top-six results.

he Navy men's gymnastics team kicked off its 2026 season with a competitive 307.65 to 306.10 victory over Springfield College on Saturday afternoon at the Halsey Field House Gymnastics Facility. Interspersing four first-time collegiate competitors into their 12-man lineup, the Mids (1-0) used a 2.15-point swing on the rings rotation to pull ahead of the Pride (0-1) and hold on down the stretch for the conference victory.
Navy's individual effort was led by
Brian Solomon and
Boone Washburn, who each placed first, Solomon on the parallel bars with a 12.7 score and Washburn on the high bar with a career-best 13.4. Additionally, Solomon recorded a career-high score in the all-around with 79.05 points over six events.
As a team, Navy scored 52.5 points on the floor exercise, 52.1 on the pommel horse, 50.7 on the rings, 53.75 on the vault, 47.8 on the parallel bars and 50.8 on the high bar.
