Match Information
•    The three local Patriot League teams will play a round robin series this weekend as Navy plays host to Loyola on Friday, the Greyhounds play Saturday at American and the Mids face the Eagles Sunday in Washington, D.C.
•    The Mids (6-6, 4-0) will play the Greyhounds (4-9, 2-2) at 6 p.m. and then face the Eagles (9-4, 4-0) at 2 p.m.

Attending Friday's Match
•    Only those vehicles driven by someone with a Department of War approved identification card will be allowed onto the USNA.
•    Fans without approved vehicle access to the USNA must park outside of The Yard.  The simplest way to do this is to take the free shuttle bus.  
•    The shuttle bus on Friday (5-9 p.m.) will depart from and return to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).  Enter the blue / west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue.  There is a $10 per vehicle parking fee.  The free fan shuttle bus will leave from and return to the Blue Angel jet.  
•    Whether a visitor rides the shuttle bus or walks through one of the USNA gates, everyone ages 18 and over must have a valid picture ID (i.e.: State issued driver's license with REAL ID, student I.D., or a U.S. government issued passport). Visitors ages 17 and younger who do not have a valid picture ID must be accompanied by an adult. 
•    Foreign passports are not permitted for general access.

Last Week
•    Navy won a pair of four-set matches last weekend in Annapolis, defeating Lafayette on Friday and Bucknell on Saturday.
•    Ellen Gundlach recorded a career-high 22 kills and hit .545 as the Mids posted a 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 victory over the Leopards.
•    Navy rallied from sizable deficits late in sets two (trailed 22-19) and four (trailed 8-2 and 22-19) to come away with the win.
•    The Mids committed only seven attack errors in the last three sets and forced Bucknell into 23 in the same span to help Navy defeat the Bison 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15.
•    Caroline Buffum (15 kills, .314), Gundlach (14, .345) and Farrah Eike (12, .393) combined for 41 of Navy's 52 kills.
•    Navy outhit Bucknell, .339-.215, and the Mids had 10 blocks to 2 for the Bison.

Gundlach Honored
•    Ellen Gundlach was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Sept. 29 after her efforts against Lafayette and Bucknell.
•    She led the league in kills (36), ranked second in kills per set (4.50) and third in hitting percentage (.452 / 36-8-62) on the weekend.
•    Gundlach recorded 22 kills and a .545 hitting percentage against the Leopards and then posted 14 kills and  a.345 hitting percentage against the Bison.
•    It was the first weekly award of her career.

•    Navy is off to a 4-0 record in its Patriot League matches for the first time since the 2021 spring season when the Mids were 4-0 during their five-match COVID abbreviated seson.
•    The last time Navy won its first four matches in a fully played season was in 2018.
•    The Mids were last 5-0 in 2017 when they began the year with a 7-0 record.

Loyola Preview
•    Loyola snapped a five-match losing streak with a three-set win over Bucknell and then recorded a five-set victory over Lehigh last weekend in Baltimore.  Loyola lost five-set match to Coppin State on Tuesday.
•    The Greyhounds had opened league play the previous week with a four-set loss at Army and a three-set loss at Colgate.
•    Navy and Loyola split a pair of matches played between the teams last season, with the home team winning each match.  The Greyhounds posted a five-set win (25-21, 25-27, 21-25, 26-24, 18-16) in Baltimore and the Mids won in four sets (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23) in Annapolis.
•    The teams have played at least one five-set match in three of the last four seasons.
•    Navy and Loyola have played 34 sets against one another over the last four years.  10 of those were decided by two points, another six by six points and 25 have been determined by no more than five points.
•    Navy has nine players who have played in a match against Loyola and the Greyhounds also have nine players who have previously faced the Mids.
•    Navy players have totaled 92 career kills against the Greyhounds.  This includes Farrah Eike with 35 and Caroline Buffum with 23.
•    Loyola's players have totaled 126 kills against the Mids.  Pacing the Greyhounds are Morgan Crawford with 48, Addie Lowe and 26 and Mariah Sanabia with 22.

American Preview
•    American enters Saturday's match against the Greyhounds on a five-match winning streak.  This includes five-set wins at Holy Cross and at home over Lehigh, with 3-0 victories coming at Army and against Lafayette in Washington, D.C.
•    The Eagles also posted a five-set victory over Northwestern earlier in the season.
•    The teams met three times during the 2025 campaign, with American posting three-set wins in both regular season matches and in the semifinal match of the Patriot League Tournament that was played in Washington, D.C.
•    Each team has 11 players on their respective current roster who have played in a match against the other.
•    Navy's current players have amassed 72 kills against the Eagles, with only Farrah Eike (41) and Caroline Buffum (17) having accrued more than 10 kills.
•    American's players have totaled 165 kills against the Mids.  Four players have recorded at least 20 kills against Navy  –– Elsie Sterling, 39; Sophie Dufour, 35; Salme Hollas, 31; Prinzez Zack, 27.

Next for Navy
•    It will be another split site weekend for the Mids as they will play at Army Friday, Oct. 9 in the annual Star Match and then return home to play host to Lehigh on Sunday, Oct. 11.

5-Set Matches
•    It made sense that Navy's season-opening match against Indiana State was extended to five sets.
•    Navy's 2025 season opener against Boise State also was a five-set match.
•    The Mids played eight five setters in 2025, which was one away from tying the school record for the most in a Division I season (since 1991).
•    Navy has played 30 five-set matches since the start of the 2022 season.
•    Navy has played 22 five-set matches during the Patriot League regular season since the start of the 2022 season.

Many Lineups
•    Navy used 20 different starting lineups (including the libero) during the 2025 season.
•    The Mids have used seven different starting lineups through 12 matches this season.

Close Sets
•    29 of Navy's 45 sets this season have been decided by no more than five points.
•    7 of Navy's 16 sets in league play this season have been decided by no more than five points.
