Men’s Tennis to Play Three Home Matches Over The Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will play three of its four matches this weekend at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.  The Mids (7-5) will play host to Saint Joseph's (3-6) Friday at 1 p.m., Hampton (0-1) Saturday at 9 a.m. and Villanova (2-2) Saturday at noon.  Navy also will play a 1 p.m. match Friday at NJIT (2-0) in Newark N.J.

Navy
The Mids tallied a 6-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's and lost a 7-0 decision to Monmouth last weekend.

Aniketh Ayinala, Lachlan Buckingham and Jake Young all won singles and doubles matches in the home victory over the Mountaineers.  The doubles team of George Cutone and Tommy Kim defeated Monmouth's No. 2 team in the match played in New Jersey.

Ayinala continues to lead Navy in singles wins with his 6-1 record since the start of the 2026 calendar year.  Kim is not far behind with his mark of 5-2.  Meanwhile, Young's doubles record of 6-1 leads all players on the team.  He and Buckingham have combined for a 3-0 record as a doubles duo this season.

Saint Joseph's
The Hawks have faced an arduous schedule to date as some of their defeats have been to Wake Forest, Oral Roberts (4-3), Oklahoma State, Penn State and Penn.  Saint Joseph's also has posted a 4-0 win over a Hofstra team Navy defeated by the score of 7-0.

The Hawks ended the 2025 season with an overall record of 9-18 and an Atlantic 10 Conference mark of 2-5.  SJU lost in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.

Navy and Saint Joseph's have met on a near annual basis since the first match was played during the 2002 spring season.  The Mids have won all 23 prior matches, including a 6-1 victory last season.

NJIT
Friday's match between the teams will be played at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility in Newark.

The Highlanders, who will compete in the Big South Conference this year, have registered 7-0 wins this season over both Fairleigh Dickinson and Fordham.

Last year saw NJIT post an overall record of 18-2 and receive the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament.  The Highlanders lost in the championship match of the event as they fell just short of winning a second-straight conference title.

NJIT holds a 4-2 lead in the series with Navy.  The first match between the teams occurred in 2018 and they have met each season since except for the 2021 COVID campaign.  The Highlanders won a 4-0 decision last season in Annapolis in what was the only match to date played outside of New Jersey.

Hampton
The Pirates have lost the only match they have played thus far this season, a 6-1 defeat to Christopher Newport.

Hampton finished the 2025 campaign with an overall record of 5-13 and a 0-2 mark against fellow Coastal Athletic Association opponents.

Navy and Hampton have met on only four occasions, with the series tied at 2-2.  The Mids lost a 4-3 match at Hampton in 2024 and won a 4-3 decision in 2025 in Annapolis.

Villanova
The Wildcats have started the season with a split of their four matches as they have lost 7-0 contests to Delaware and Drexel, posted a 5-2 win over Howard and defeated Wagner by the score of 4-3.

Villanova tallied an overall record of 5-19 and a Big East Conference mark of 0-6 during the team's 2025 season.

Navy leads the series with Villanova by the count of 22-2.  This includes a 6-1 victory by the Mids last season in Annapolis.
