#8 Rifle Registers Historic Weekend in Charleston

Over the weekend, Navy rifle broke three school records and had two athletes shoot 600.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The #8 Navy rifle team (14-4) broke three school records and had two student-athletes shoot a perfect 600 as the Midshipmen swept a weekend of competitions at the Inouye Marksmanship Center in Charleston, S.C. The duo of Isabella Baldwin and Tyler Wee both shot a 600 in air rifle. It is believed to be that they became the first set of teammates in NCAA history to shoot a perfect score at the same competition.

The Mids opened the weekend with a school-record 4745 aggregate points to top #6 Georgia Southern (4741 points) and match-host The Citadel (mixed 4609; women 2325). Navy concluded the weekend with another solid performance, 4733, that was highlighted by Baldwin and T. Wee each shooting a perfect 600 in air rifle to sweep the Bulldogs (mixed 4626; women 2323).

"We had the best showing this weekend in the history of our program," head coach Mike Anti said. "Our young men and women amaze me every day with their determination, sportsmanship, and willingness to fight for every point. Giving up is not an option."

On Saturday, the Midshipmen opened the competition with a new school record, 2363, in smallbore and finished with a 2382 in air rifle for a program record 4745 aggregate score. The following day, Navy carded a 2347 in smallbore to go along with a new school record of 2386 in air rifle for a 4733 combined tally.

Sunday was highlighted by Baldwin and T. Wee's perfect 600s in air rifle. It was the first 600 in a competition for Baldwin, while it was the third time in his rookie campaign that T. Wee posted a perfect score in air rifle.

"We broke all three program records," added Anti. "In addition to setting new program records, two of our athletes did something that has never been done in NCAA history. Both Isabella Baldwin and Tyler Wee shot a perfect 600 in the air rifle event. No other team has ever had two perfect scores in the same competition. This was Isabella's first 600 in competition and Tyler's third 600 this season, another feat that I do not believe has ever been done in one season.

"In addition, Parker Haydin had back-to-back incredible scores above 590 in smallbore. Grace Shepard also put in a solid performance, setting a personal best in the total aggregate. I am very proud of this entire team. We now have a few days to prepare for the NCAA Qualifier next weekend."

Up next, the Midshipmen return home to host John Jay in the NCAA Qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. Live results will be available.
