Wrestling Star on the Line as Navy Faces Army Friday Night

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy wrestling team (6-4, 3-1 EIWA) closes out the regular season Friday evening when it plays host to rival Army (4-5, 4-1 EIWA) in the annual Star Match held at Alumni Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. The dual is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
 
The dual will be streamed on the Navy Athletics YouTube channel with Dave McHugh and Jay Antonelli on the call.
 
Accessing the Naval Academy
• Vehicle access to the Naval Academy is restricted to drivers with a Department of Defense ID card. All other visitors must park outside USNA grounds.
• Fans can either walk through Gate 1 security checkpoints or take complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
• Anyone 18 or older must present a Real ID or passport. Visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
• Shuttles will operate from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday from the stadium's Blue/West parking lot (press box side), accessible via Gate 5 off Taylor Avenue. Parking is $10.50.

Last Time Out
Navy celebrated its eight seniors in its most recent outing against Bucknell, capping the day with a dramatic 19-18 victory.
 
The Midshipmen opened the dual in strong fashion as Andrew Binni (125) scored the first takedown 52 seconds into his match before turning Kade Davidheiser to his back for a fall at 2:56 to give Navy an early 6-0 lead.
 
After Bucknell tied the dual, 9-9, at 149 pounds, Jonathan Ley (157) delivered a key swing with an 11-1 major decision over Cade Wirnsberger.
 
Bucknell reclaimed the lead (18-16) at 197 with a narrow 2-0 decision, setting the stage for a winner-take-all heavyweight bout.
 
Fourteenth-ranked Spencer Lanosga delivered the decisive moment. After a scoreless first period, Lanosga earned a point for an escape in the second and controlled 30th-ranked Lucas Lawler with a key rideout in the third to post a 2-0 decision, lifting Navy to the one-point victory.
 
2025-26 Army-Navy Star Series
Along with the wrestling star on the line Friday evening, the men's and women's basketball stars will be decided at West Point on Saturday.
 
The Midshipmen enter the weekend with an 11-4-1 lead in the Army-Navy Star Series this year and a 13-5-1 record against Army overall. Navy has won the last nine star competitions: men's rugby, sprint football, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, football, gymnastics, men's track & field, women's track & field and rifle.
 
With 10 Star games remaining this year, the Mids can clinch the series with two more victories over the Black Knights.
 
Navy Notes
• Riding a four-dual winning streak, Navy owns a 6-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in EIWA duals.
• Two wins during the streak have come against EIWA opponents (American 34-3; Bucknell 19-18).
• Navy sits second in the EIWA Liberty Division, one match ahead of third-place Army (3-1).
• The Midshipmen are 3-1 at home with the lone loss coming against 21st-ranked Pittsburgh in the season opener (20-12).
• With his win over 30th-ranked Lucas Lawler, Spencer Lanosga leads the team in victories over ranked opponents (seven) and is tied with Dylan Elmore, Jonathan Ley and Danny Wask for overall wins (17).
• Wask and Lanosga are tied for the team lead in dual wins with eight apiece.
• Ley leads Navy with a 4-0 dual record in EIWA duals this season.
• Ley's 17 wins mark a new career best.
• Daniel Williams has won three-straight dual matches at 184 pounds, including two over ranked opponents.
• Eight Midshipmen in the projected lineup have won at least 12 matches this season.
• Zyan Hall leads the team with four wins by technical fall.
• Brendan Ferretti leads the squad with six wins by fall.
• Navy's projected lineup has posted a combined 4-10 record in Army-Navy Star Matches. Ferretti, Smith, Ley and Wask are the only Mids with two or more Star Match starts and have one win.
• Andrew Binni, Caedyn Ricciardi, Hall and Lanosga are expected to make their Army-Navy debuts.

Scouting Army
• Army is 4-5 overall and 4-1 in EIWA action.
• The Black Knights swept duals against Hofstra (35-10) and Long Island (41-3) on Feb. 7.
• All five losses have come against National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)-ranked opponents: second-ranked Nebraska (33-3), 27th-ranked Wisconsin (24-12), 24th-ranked Indiana (26-14), 21st-ranked Cornell (25-13) and 16th-ranked Lehigh (29-11).
• Army is 0-3 on the road this season.
• Five Black Knights are ranked in the latest InterMat poll, led by 13th-ranked Gunner Flipowicz (165).
