BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The red-hot Navy women's basketball team continued its run of dominance on the court this week as the Mids knocked off the Lafayette Leopards and American University Eagles in consecutive games to run their current win streak to nine games. In recognition of their 2-0 week, the Mids'
Zanai Barnett-Gay (Jr., Glenn Dale, Md.) and
Zoe Mesuch (Fr., Clintondale, N.Y.) were selected as the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Barnett-Gay continued to lead Navy as the Mids extended their win streak to a program record nine straight Patriot League contests. The talented junior guard paced Navy in all major statistical categories with averages of 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Her week started with a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds with five assists versus Lafayette before coming back on Saturday with another double-double (her 10th of the season) with 22 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists at American. Barnett-Gay became just the seventh player in Navy Women's Basketball history to reach the 1,500-point plateau when she netted her 10th point on Saturday.
Mesuch also played a pivotal role in Navy going 2-0 and holding onto a two-game lead in the Patriot League standings. The freshman guard's week began with a nine-point outing versus Lafayette on Wednesday before coming back on Saturday with 13 points against American. Scoreless in the first half against the Eagles, Mesuch scored 11 of her 13 points as part of the Mids' 29-point third quarter to turn a three-point advantage into a 22-point lead after three periods of play. In total, she shot 5-7 from the field with a three-pointer in the second half. For the week, she averaged 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 three-pointers per game.
Barnett-Gay is now a two-time honoree in 2025-26 after collecting Patriot of the Week accolades earlier on Nov. 17. For her career, Barnett-Gay has been named the league's player of the week seven times.
In Mesuch's case, she is now the leader in Patriot League Rookie of the Week nods for 2025-26 as she's pulled ahead of Lehigh's Leia Edwards with her fifth rookie of the week award.
Barnett-Gay, Mesuch and the Mids will look to keep their momentum going with a pair of home games this week in Annapolis. First up is a Wednesday night matchup versus Bucknell before Colgate comes into town on Saturday. Times for tip-off are 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
