MOBILE, Ala. – Highlighted by three players tying for 27th on the leaderboard, the Navy women's golf team saw its "A" squad place ninth and its "B" lineup finish tied for 12th overall at the conclusion of Monday and Tuesday's Magnolia Collegiate in Mobile, Ala.
Hosted by South Alabama at the par-72, 6,204-yard Crossing Course at Magnolia Grove, the Midshipmen's "A" team opened the tournament by shooting rounds of 312 and 207 on Monday before notching a 310 in Tuesday's final round, closing play at 65-over par 929. For the Mids' "B" contingent, they opened the event by posting scores of 318 and a Navy weekend-best 306 on the first day, then tallying a 315 on Tuesday to wrap up action at 75-over par 939.
Host South Alabama captured the team title with a 29-over par 893, edging second-place West Georgia by three strokes, while Stetson's Isaki Sakashita took home the individual medal at one-over par 217 (74-73-70).
Navy's "A" squad was led by junior
Keira Howard and freshman
Angelina Kim, who both tied for 27th place individually at 15-over par 231. Howard carded rounds of 78, 75 and 78, while Kim posted scores of 76, 78 and 77. Filling out the top lineup, junior
Emma Tang tied for 37th at 18-over par 234 (81-75-78), sophomore
Megan Kirkpatrick tied for 52nd at 21-over par 237 (77-79-81) and fellow sophomore
Vivian Cressman rounded it out by tying for 71st at 29-over par 245 (85-83-77).
On the "B" side, senior
Sue Lee matched Howard and Kim for Navy's best individual showing, also tying for 27th at 15-over par 231 following rounds of 78, 79 and a team-best 74 in the final round Tuesday. Following Lee in the lineup, rookie
Elizabeth Hang finished at 22-over par 238 (79-79-80) in 57th place and junior
Una Johnson tied for 58th at 23-over par 239 (82-82-75). Senior captain
Hallie Brisco tied for 64th at 25-over par 241 (79-85-77) while freshman
Malerie Lague closed by tying for 68th at 27-over par 243 (82-81-80).
Competing as an individual, Navy freshman
Iliana Rubio shot a 39-over par 255 and placed 75th, posting rounds of 84-85-86 in her collegiate debut.
Navy continues its spring slate next week, March 23-24, at William & Mary's Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
