Navy Wrestlers Primed for NCAA Championship Run

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Five members of the Navy wrestling team will begin their pursuit of national titles this week at the 2026 NCAA Championship, held Thursday through Saturday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
Representing Navy are three-time NCAA qualifier and 2025 All-American Danny Wask (174 pounds), along with first-time qualifiers Andrew Binni (125), Caedyn Ricciardi (141), Jonathan Ley (157) and Spencer Lanosga (285).

The championship features two sessions each day, with live coverage airing across ESPN platforms. Thursday's sessions begin at noon on ESPN2, followed by the evening session at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Friday's action starts at noon on ESPNU and concludes at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. Saturday opens with the consolation finals at 11 a.m. on ESPNU, with the championship finals set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Freshmen Making an Impact
The 320-wrestler field includes 20 true freshmen, three of whom represent Navy: Binni, Ricciardi and Lanosga.
 
Binni is one of two true freshmen in the 125-pound bracket, while Ricciardi is one of three at 141 pounds. Lanosga is the lone true freshman competing at heavyweight.
 
Navy is the only program with three true freshmen in the field. Top-ranked Penn State, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Virginia Tech and Princeton each have two.
Navy Notes
• Navy's five qualifiers are the most among the service academies this season (Army: 4; Air Force: 2; VMI: 1).
• Ley and Wask lead the team with 21 wins apiece this season.
• Lanosga ranks second on the team with 20 wins, matching Dylan Elmore (165).
• Wask is aiming to become the 16th two-time All-American in program history and the first since Bryce Saddoris (2009, 2011).
• Lanosga leads the team with eight wins over ranked opponents.
• Ley owns a 16-8 tournament record this season.
• Binni is 2-8 against opponents in this year's NCAA Championship bracket, including wins over Pittsburgh's Tyler Chappell (4-1) and Drexel's Desmond Pleasant (11-3).
• Ricciardi owns a 5-4 mark against this year's national qualifiers, including two wins over Army's Braden Basile (pin in 5:38, 5-3).
• Ley is 3-4 this season against NCAA Championship qualifiers and owns a win over Virginia's Colton Washleski (2-1).
• Wask has compiled an 11-12 career record against the current NCAA field, including a 4-4 mark this season with a win over George Mason's Logan Messer (11-2).
• Wask owns a 5-5 record in two NCAA Championship appearances, including four wins over opponents in this year's field.
• Lanosga is 9-5 against wrestlers in this year's tournament field, with two losses by medical forfeit, and owns two wins over Pittsburgh's Dayton Pitzer to open the season (5-0, 6-4).
 
Navy's NCAA History
• Navy is making its 77th NCAA Championship appearance and sixth under head coach Cary Kolat.
• The program has had at least one qualifier in every NCAA Championship since 1997 (excluding the canceled 2020 event).
• Navy's best team finish was fourth place in 1954.
• The Midshipmen have produced three individual national champions: Pete Blair (1954, 1955) and Dan Muthler (1973).
• Navy wrestlers have earned 67 All-America honors in program history.
• Last season, Josh Koderhandt and Danny Wask earned All-America honors, marking the program's first two All-Americans at the same championship since 2009.
• The Midshipmen placed 21st with 20 points at last year's championship, their highest finish since 2016 when they placed 22nd with 21 points.
