Women’s Golf Travels to Delaware for Saturday Match Play

Mids and Blue Hens Set to Tee Off at 12 Noon Saturday at the DuPont Country Club

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's golf team continues its stretch run towards the Patriot League Championship this weekend, returning to action on Saturday morning with a match-play event against Delaware at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.

Competition in Saturday's singles match play between the Midshipmen and Blue Hens is slated to begin at 12 Noon on the par-71, 5,670-yard course. Emma Tang, Keira Howard, Megan Kirkpatrick, Vivian Cressman, Sue Lee, captain Hallie Brisco and Elizabeth Hang will make up the seven-person lineup for the Mids at the event.

Match Play Format
Navy and Delaware will compete in a modified match play instead of the normal dual-match format, as the two teams will play seven singles matches … Singles competition will pit one player from each team against each other, hole after hole, with a point being awarded to the player with the lowest score at the end of the round … The winning golfer will earn a team point with a win, while a tie earns a half-point … If the teams are tied at the end of singles competition, there will be a one-person playoff to determine the team win.

Match Play History
This will mark the fifth time Navy has participated in a match play that only features single competition, going 1-3 in those previous matches … Saturday also marks the fourth-straight spring that the Mids and Blue Hens will face off in singles match play … The Mids dropped a sudden-death playoff hole to Delaware on March 25, 2023 after tying, 3-3, following the six singles matches in Annapolis, with Eve Worden, Stephanie Lee and Sue Lee all claiming victory … Navy then beat the Blue Hens, 5-3, in the April 6, 2024 event in Wilmington, Del., as Emma Tang, Stephanie Lee, Hallie Brisco, Sue Lee and Bridget Hoang all won their matchups … Facing Maryland on Oct. 12, 2024, Navy fell 4.5-3.5 to the Terps despite wins from Emma Tang, Sue Lee and Keira Howard … Navy dropped last spring's March 22 match play with Delaware, falling by a 4-3 score despite Vivian Cressman and Sue Lee picking up wins … The Mids also have a 6-4 record in dual matches that includes singles and four-ball play.

Last Time Out
With all six traveling golfers finishing in the top-20, Navy secured a second-place finish at Monday and Tuesday's Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. … Playing on the par-72, 5,947-yard River Course at the Kingsmill Resort, the Mids posted a three-round team total of 44-over par 908 (296-304-308) … Emma Tang led the Mids, finishing in fifth place with an 8-over par 224 (74-73-77), while Angelina Kim also secured a top-10 finish for Navy by placing eighth with an 11-over par 227 (76-76-75).

Tang Named Patriot League Golfer of the Week
After wrapping up her second top-5 showing of the season Tuesday at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, junior Emma Tang was named the Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday afternoon … The award marks the second time Tang has won weekly league honors this season and the sixth time garnering Patriot League Golfer of the Week laurels in her career.

Scouting Delaware
The Blue Hens have six top-5 finishes this season, including winning their own Lady Blue Hens Invitational in the fall and Lipscomb's The Nashville Invitational earlier this week … Delaware held on for a five-stroke victory at The Nashville Invitational, as three Blue Hens finished in the top three … Kate Roberts claimed runner-up honors while Hyunji Kim and Marissa Malosh tied for third, with the Blue Hens turning in a three-round score of 18-over par 882 to finish atop the 16-team field … Roberts was named the Conference USA (CUSA) Women's Golfer of the Week for her efforts on Wednesday.
