WILMINGTON, Del. – Returning to the course after just three days off, the Navy women's golf team came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Delaware in match play Saturday afternoon at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
Playing a modified match-play event with seven singles matches on the par-71, 5,670-yard course, the Midshipmen were up early but eventually fell behind the Blue Hens as the day wore on despite individual wins by freshman
Elizabeth Hang, junior
Keira Howard and senior captain
Hallie Brisco.
Hang opened the afternoon by beating Victoria Rivera, 2&1, while Kate Roberts' 2&1 win over junior
Emma Tang evened the team score. Navy took another lead when Howard edged out Hyunji Kim, 2&1, but Delaware soon went on a run after.
With Marissa Malosh pulling past sophomore
Megan Kirkpatrick, Anushka Sawant put the Blue Hens on the verge of clinching when she defeated another sophomore in
Vivian Cressman, 7&5.
Mary Grace Dunigan clinched Delaware's win by handling senior
Sue Lee by a 3&2 score, as Brisco claimed the final singles match of the day by Rhianna Gooneratne's concession.
Navy will wrap up the regular season with the Terps Invitational on April 5-6 in College Park, Md.
