ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Getting on the Severn River for the first and only time in 2026, the Navy women's rowing team gave their home fans a great show with victories in four of five races versus Georgetown on Saturday. In a preview of next month's Patriot League Championship regatta, the Mids displayed depth and speed that should make them among the favorites to finish high up the standings.
The action began with a first varsity eight showdown. In a dominant performance, Navy collected what would be its largest margin of victory on the day as they led wire-to-wire and cruised to a 15.02-second win over Georgetown, 6:44.33 to 6:59.35.
The Mids made it two-for-two as they held off the Hoyas in a much tighter contest in the second varsity eight classification, 7:00.11 to 7:04.56.
The competition moved into the fours portion of racing and Georgetown broke into the win column in the first varsity four event. The Hoyas were fast out of the gate and controlled the majority of the action as they knocked off the hosts by 8.23 seconds, 7:47.09 to 7:55.32.
Navy returned the favor in the ensuing race with its second varsity four crew. The Mids in the 2V4 boat were no match for the Hoyas and captured a 10-plus second victory, 7:58.62 to 8:09.36.
The final and closest race of the morning was the third varsity eight bout. Competitive down the Severn for the entirety of the 2,000 meters, Navy came out on top of Georgetown by 3.43 seconds, 7:07.46 to 7:10.89. Racing as a guest, the Mids' fourth varsity eight finished in third with a 7:28.96 result.
Saturday marked the final home race for Navy's nine members of the Class of 2026.
"We had a really wonderful day today," remarked head coach
Joe Schlosberg. "It's great to be able to have these annual home-and-home races with Georgetown. Our firsties were able to throw down for their final home race here on the Severn surrounded by families, friends and a deep legacy of alumnae. We are beyond grateful for the love and support today and always!
"We are looking forward to getting back on the water next weekend in North Carolina."
The Mids will conclude the regular season portion of its schedule this coming weekend with two days of action at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina. The multi-team, multi-session event will be contested on Friday and Saturday.
