ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's rowing team hits the mid-way point of its spring regular season schedule this Saturday with action on the road in Northern New Jersey. The Mids will travel up the East Coast to take part in a three-way competition between the host Columbia Lions and Notre Dame at Overpeck Park in Leonia, New Jersey. The three teams will race shoulder-to-shoulder over a series of five contests on Saturday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. and culminating at 10:30.
The entire slate of racing on Saturday consists of a third varsity eight showdown kicking off the action at 9:30 a.m. with a second varsity four bout going off 15 minutes later at 9:45 a.m. The next two events focus on the first varsity fours at 10:00 a.m. and second varsity eights at 10:15 a.m. The first varsity eight crews from Navy, Columbia and Notre Dame conclude the regatta at 10:30 a.m. with one final 2,000-meter piece.
Most Recent Action at Overpeck Park - April 6, 2024
The Mids are not strangers to the waters of Overpeck Park as they participated in the multi-team Atlantic-10 Invitational on April 6, 2024. As part of that two-session competition, Navy went up against Columbia and Marist for the majority of the action in the morning and Rhode Island and Bucknell for the majority of the afternoon racing. At the end of the day, Navy's first varsity eight highlighted the competition with a victory in the afternoon session to go along with eight other runner-up results by Midshipmen crews.
The first varsity eight crew led off the action as it was matched up in a heat against Columbia and Marist. The Lions and Mids were the class of the field as they easily cleared the Red Foxes by nearly 30 seconds. At the finish line, Columbia was victorious over Navy by 9.067 seconds, 7:36.733 to 7:45.800; Marist clocked in at 8:15.718. In the afternoon session of racing, the Mids competed against Rhode Island and Patriot League rival Bucknell. Not only did Navy's V8 improve its finish, but it also shaved 7.053 seconds off its initial time. After 2,000 meters of racing, the Mids were victorious with a 7:38.747 to best the Rams' 7:43.274 and the Bison's 8:01.155.
Last Time Out: Navy at Temple Invitational, March 28 in Philadelphia
After opening its season on March 14-15 with action versus national foes at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite, the Navy women's rowing team took aim at the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday with competition at the 2026 Temple Invitational. Racing on a 2,000-meter stretch of the Schuylkill River, the Mids were matched up against Delaware, Fordham, Georgetown, La Salle, Monmouth and the host Temple University in 12 races set up over two sessions. When the action was all over on Saturday, Navy was victorious in 10 of those contests, including two wins from each of its top-three varsity eight crews and each of its top-two varsity four boats.
Navy's first varsity eight was dominant in its two performances on Saturday as it opened the day with a 9.98-second margin of victory over the field of Temple, Delaware and Georgetown. The Mids clocked in at 6:21.53, while the Owls finished runner-up with a 6:31.51 time. In the afternoon session of racing, Navy was challenged a bit more by the trio of Fordham, Temple and Monmouth. The Mids were up to that task and collected an open-water win of 4.46 seconds over Fordham, 6:26.23 to 6:30.69.
For its success, Navy's V8+ was selected as the Patriot League Boat of the Week on Tuesday.

Located in Leonia, New Jersey, Overpeck County Park is an 811-acre county park in Bergen County, with major sections in Leonia, Palisades Park, Ridgefield Park, and Teaneck, surrounding Overpeck Creek, a tributary of the Hackensack River. Spectators can enter the park from the Challenger Road entrance by following directions to the Overpeck County Park Amphitheatre. If parking near the team launch site, race viewing is best seen from the western shore about a 15 minute walk from the parking area.
