NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its National Players of the Week and Navy sophomore Attacker
Alyssa Chung was selected as the Division I Offensive Player of the Week. Additionally, Chung won an ILWomen Instagram Story fan vote en route to AXIA Time Women's DI Player of Week honors.
Chung, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Midshipmen into the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals finished the opening weekend of the NCAAs with six goals, three assists, three caused turnovers, three draw controls, and a ground ball.
The IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week honor is the first of Chung's career and the third for Navy this season. Senior team captain
Ava Yovino was named IWLCA Division I Offensive player of the week twice this year (Feb. 10 and March 3), following Navy's victories over #10 Virginia and #7 Florida.
Chung started the NCAA Tournament with four points on a pair of goals and two assists in Navy's 17-16 victory over UMass. Additionally, the sophomore added a pair of caused turnovers and a draw control in the win.
Against #9 Syracuse, the Tewaaraton Award finalist scored a team-high four goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime to help lead the Midshipmen to their third NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal in program history. Against the Orange, Chung added a pair of draws, a caused turnover, and a ground ball.
Navy returns to action this week as the Midshipmen travel to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 14, at SECU Stadium. The game will air on ESPNU at 5:00 p.m.
