WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. // The Navy men's golf team opened play at the 2026 NCAA Winston-Salem Regional on Monday where it closed out the first round in 13th place. Competing at the par-71, 7,013-yard Bermuda Run Country Club, the Midshipmen shot an 11-over par 295 in the opening round and is just 8 strokes outside of the top 10.
The trio of
Hudson Mitchell (Fr / Pensacola, Fla.),
Danny Auffant (Jr / Bellevue, Wash.) and
Chip Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.) led the way for the Mids with a 1-over par 72 to tie for 36th. Team captain
Jack Tarzy (Sr / Medford, N.J.) is 71st with an 8-over par 79, while
Sebastian Alonzo (Fr / Azusa, Calif.) is 75th with a 13-over par 84.
Top-seeded and third-ranked Virginia holds a 2-stroke advantage over Pepperdine following the opening round. The Cavaliers shot a 13-under-par 271, followed by #15 Pepperdine (-11 / 273) in second and #28 USC (-6 / 278), #39 Mississippi State (-6 / 278), #32 Wake Forest (-6 / 278) and #10 Ole Miss (-6 / 278) tied for third.
Virginia's Ben James and Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri are tied for first on the individual leader board with a 5-under par 66. James is ranked third nationally, while Chirravuri stands 11th.
Play will resume Tuesday at the Bermuda Run Country Club with Virginia, Pepperdine and Wake Forest teeing off at 7:30 am. Meanwhile, Navy will play alongside Little Rock and the five individuals whose teams did not qualify beginning at 9:20 am.
