ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Following a run of six of seven games at home during the month of August, the Navy women's soccer team will head out on the road and begin a five-game series of contests away from Annapolis. First up is a pair of tilts in western Virginia as the Mids (4-2-1) are set to face off with the Radford Highlanders (2-3) on Thursday followed by a Sunday matinee in Lexington versus the VMI Keydets (0-4-1). Kickoff on Thursday is set for 7 p.m., while Sunday's matchup is set for a 1 p.m. first touch.

All of the women's soccer action this week will have live stats provided online, as well as ESPN+ broadcasts. ESPN+ is a subscription-based streaming service that requires patrons to sign-up for monthly or yearly plans prior to tuning into the contest.

Thursday marks the first-ever matchup between the Mids and Highlanders on the pitch ... The Navy women's soccer team turned in a highly offensive-minded performance on Sunday afternoon as the Mids fired off 28 shots on their way to a 3-2 victory over the VMI Keydets. Coming in with an all-time series advantage of 6-0 over the Keydets, the Mids overcame an early one-goal deficit with a loud run of three unanswered goals before a late VMI score tightened the final result to 3-2 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Marlee Heaven paced Navy's comeback effort with her second two-goal game of the season as she netted the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute before notching the game-winning tally courtesy of a converted penalty kick in the 82nd. Lauren Toms was the Mids' first goal scorer of the day as she hammered home a header shot in the 31st minute for her first career goal.         

Surviving the early barrage of action in their defensive third, the Keydets rallied and broke onto the scoreboard first with a Riley Boucher marker at 23:53.

It took less than eight minutes for Navy to pull even as Amanda Graziano swung a deep looping corner kick to the back post where Toms elevated up to meet the ball and powered a header shot into the back of the net at 31:00.

Navy goalkeeper Natasha Stramrood was called up a little over two minutes later when she leaped up in the 34th minute to deny a Sedona Dancu shot on goal. That save helped both teams retire to the locker room at halftime with the score knotted at 1-1.

The Mids' constant pressure and nose for the goal finally paid off in the 67th minute when Ande Swan played a ball up from midfield to Isabella Romano, who calmly collected the pass and found Heaven for the through ball and another one-on-one opportunity. Heaven made sure VMI's goalkeeper, Whitney Tracy's, aggressiveness wouldn't pay off as she pocketed her shot into the far corner of the goal mouth at 66:03.

Heaven matched her two-goal effort from earlier this season versus Sacred Heart in the 82nd minute when she converted the Mids' first penalty kick of the year. The opportunity came about when Alexa Riddle out-ran a VMI defender and was taken down from behind in the box.

A corner kick connection by the Keydets' Cadee Hegarty to Isabella Bruzonic at 84:00 tightened the final margin to 3-2. 
 
For the game, Navy out-shot VMI, 28-8 with a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Last Time Out: Sunday, Aug. 30 versus Marist in Annapolis
The busiest week of action for the Navy women's soccer team in 2026 wrapped up with a perfect 3-0 mark over three games as the Mids (4-2-1) came from behind to defeat the Marist Red Foxes (0-5) by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. After falling behind early 1-0 in the 13th minute, the Mids rallied with three unanswered goals over a 35-minute span of play during the middle portion of the contest at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Goal scorers for Navy included Katia Katsari-Hoefer with the game-tying tally in the 40th minute and Jessica Black with the game-winning score coming out of halftime in the 52nd minute. The run of sophomores finding their way into the box score continued as Faith Graziano added the Mids' insurance goal with free kick in the 75th minute.

The Mids fell behind early when the Red Foxes' Sophia Dorsey turned around a poor clearance and ripped a shot into the back of the net at 12:33.

Playing its third game in five days and second in three, the Mids looked to their bench for fresh legs and a new vision for its attack. Entering 10 new players between the 24th and 31st minutes of play, Navy nearly found its equalizer during this run of wholesale changes when Sophia Ryan fed Sona Gonzales for a one-timer shot on goal that was denied at the goal line in the 31st minute.

The Mids' fresh outlook eventually paid off at 39:58 with a throw-in from Sofia Grundy, a dribble into the box by Graziano and a one-touch shot into the corner of the net by Katsari-Hoefer resulted in the game-tying goal.

Coming out of the locker room with the momentum of Katsari-Hoefer's goal and Stramrood's late first half save bolstering them, the Mids went up 2-1 at 51:23 when Chiara Cosenza played a lead pass up to Black, who did the rest as she held off multiple physical Marist challenges before slotting a shot into the goal.

Navy was able to breath a bit easier in the 75th minute when Graziano increased the host team's lead to two goals. Drawing the foul on a dribble up the field, Graziano calmly stepped up to her free kick opportunity and curled her shot up around the wall and into the welcoming upper-90 quadrant of the goal at 74:17.

For the game, Navy out-shot Marist, 11-9 with a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. In a losing effort, the Red Foxes held a 5-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
