Navy Post-Game Notes
• Navy was playing a game in its third NFL stadium this year ... no other school nationally has played in more than two NFL stadiums this year ... since the start of the 2003 season, Navy has played nine games in eight different NFL stadiums, posting a 5-4 record.
• Navy was playing in its third straight bowl game, a first for the Academy ... Navy defeated the Rams, 51-30, giving the Mids back-to-back bowl wins in consecutive years for the first time in school history and marked the second time (1955 Sugar and 1958 Cotton) that Navy has won back-to-back bowl games ... with the victory, Navy improved to 6-5-1 all-time in bowl games, including 2-1 under head coach Paul Johnson ... Johnson improved to 5-1 all-time against Mountain West Conference schools, including 2-0 in bowl games (2004 Emerald Bowl; Navy 34, New Mexico 19).
• With the win, Navy finished with an 8-4 record, reaching eight wins for the third straight season, something done just once before in school history (four straight eight-win seasons from 1905 to 1908) ... it marked Navy's 18th eight-win season all-time.
• Over the last three games, Navy has scored 131 points for a 43.7 per game average ... last year, Navy scored 128 points (42.3 ppg) in the last three games and 111 in 2003 (37.0 ppg).
• Navy's 48 points, 32 first downs, 69 rushing attempts and 467 rushing yards were bowl game records ... Navy's 468 yards rushing were the seventh most in school history ... and the 612 total yards were the 11th most in school history.
• Navy finished the season with 3,832 yards rushing for a 319.3-yard per game average ... Navy will finish the season as the top-rushing team in the country for the second time in three years (2003) ... for Navy not to be the top rushing team in the country, Minnesota would have to gain 753 yards against Virginia in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.
• Navy's 20 second-quarter points were the second most in Navy bowl history ... the record is 21 in the second quarter against California in the 1996 Aloha Bowl ... Navy outgained CSU, 183-21, in the second quarter on the ground.
• Colorado State's Justin Holland became the first opposing quarterback to throw for over 300 yards against Navy in 2005 ... CSU became the first team to throw for over 400 yards since Texas Tech accomplished the feat in the 2003 Houston Bowl.
• Navy has won 18 straight games when running for at least 300 yards and are 21-4 under Johnson when running for 300 yards ... Navy improved to 15-2 under Johnson when scoring at least 35 points ... the Mids also improved to 21-2 under Johnson when leading at halftime.
• Navy scored on its first offensive play of the game ... Navy scored on its opening drive of the game for the fourth time all season and first time in the last three games ... Owens' 55-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Campbell was Owens' first touchdown pass in the last five games (Rutgers; Hampton had one against Notre Dame) ... Campbell's first-quarter touchdown reception was a career long and was his first career touchdown catch ... he added another touchdown catch in the third quarter ... Campbell ran for a career-high 116 yards on a career-high 16 carries ... the five touchdowns marked the first time Campbell has scored more than one touchdown in a game and set a Navy bowl record ... it was also a Navy season high and is fourth on the school's single-game touchdown list ...Campbell's 116 yards marked the first time a Navy slotback went over 100 yards since Karlos Whittaker accomplished the feat against Stanford in the second game of the season ... it was also his first career 100-yard game ... Campbell accounted for 290 all-purpose yards, surpassing his career high of 160 against Army on Dec. 3, 2005 ... in the last two games (against Army and CSU), Campbell accumulated 450 all-purpose yards on 30 touches ... Campbell's five touchdowns tied an NCAA-bowl game record, set four previous times (Barry Sanders - Oklahoma State, 1988 Holiday; Sheldon Canley - San Jose State; 1990 California; Neil Snow - Michigan, 1902 Rose; Steven Jackson - Oregon State; 2003 Las Vegas).
• Navy finished the season scoring on 9-of-12 opening drives of the second half, accounting for seven touchdowns ... Navy scored touchdowns on the opening drive of the second half in six of the last seven games.
• Shun White's 29-yard reception in the second quarter was his first career catch ... his carry on the next play was his second career carry ... Jarrod Bryant saw his first career action at quarterback in the fourth quarter, finishing with three carries for 29 yards.
• Navy trailed after the first quarter for the second straight game and third time in the last four games.
• Joey Bullen's PAT after Marco Nelson's 22-yd. TD run in the second quarter stopped a streak of 47 consecutive PATs made - the second-longest streak in school history, and just four shy of Tim Shubzda's record of 51 straight from 1996-99 ... Bullen did tie a Navy-bowl game record with six extra points.
• O.J. Washington's nine-yard reception in the second quarter was his first career catch.
• With his 144 yards passing and 50 yards rushing, Lamar Owens went over 2,000 yards of total offense for the season and also went over 1,000 yards rushing for his career ... his 2,179 yards of total offense are the fourth most in school history ... Owens tied a Navy-bowl game record with two touchdown passes ... he finished his season with 880 yards rushing and 1,299 yards passing.
• Adam Ballard's 488 yards in the final three games of the season were the most in a three-game span since Chris McCoy ran for 389 in the first three games of the 1995 season ... Ballard finished the season with three straight 100-yard games, concluding his sophomore season with 668 yards.
• Tyler Tidwell was named the game's most valuable defensive player and Reggie Campbell was named the game's most valuable offensive player.
