Meyer Tabbed as League Player of the Week

Feb. 19, 2007

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- A record-setting performance helped Navy's Carly Meyer (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) earn Baden Patriot League Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honors, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Meyer poured in a career-high 33 points Feb. 13 against Holy Cross to break the record for the most points scored by a Mid in a Patriot League game. She broke the previous standard of 32 points, a mark she shared with Yolanda Ray.

She connected on 13-of-20 field goal attempts, 5-of-9 three-point attempts and made two of her four free throw attempts against the Crusaders. Additionally, Meyer led Navy with seven rebounds and three blocks and tied for the team lead with a pair of steals in the game.

Meyer is the first Mid in four years and just the second over the last 14 seasons to surpass 30 points in a pair of games during one season.

She continued her hot shooting Sunday against Army, drilling four three-pointers on her way to scoring a game-high 18 points. She also contributed five rebounds, two blocks and four steals against the Black Knights.

On the week she averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 3.0 steals a game, while shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 50 percent (9-of-18) from behind the three-point line.

Meyer also surpassed a pair of career milestones on the week, scoring the 900th point and grabbing the 500th rebound of her career. She also moved into fifth place in Navy history with 83 career blocked shots.

This is the second weekly award of the season for Meyer and the third of her career.

Navy will conclude its regular season this week with games Wednesday at home against American and Saturday at Colgate. Prior to Wednesday's 7 p.m. game against the Eagles, Meyer and fellow classmates Betsy Burnett (New Holstein, Wis.), Margaret Knap (Chicago, Ill.) and team captain Kate Hobbs (Wexford, Pa.) will be recognized in a Senior Night ceremony.
